This OP is inspired by a true story that I witnessed in real life not so long ago: “A wealthy woman with a happy family (great husband and two children, a daughter & a son), abandoned her loving family for a younger and a handsome man and brought all her wealth with her and left nothing for the loving family. Couple years after they got married, this young man got car accident and died, left her and their little daughter. The husband she left has never remarried, the daughter and the son are in college. She tried to come back to this family but this family never consider to have her back, now she got lymph cancer with her little daughter is taken cared by her maid and not many people nor her ex husband or her two grown up children ever visited her. Her wealth is starting to finish and she is suffering from her lymph cancer that the doctor sentenced her life would not be much longer”
* Do you believe that doing wrong to innocent people against you will reap karma?
* What story do you have about Karma?
* or share any quote about Karma.

When you do evil in mistreating others oh definitely it will surely come looking for you
Kobe Bryant and one of his daughters just died in a helicopter crash. Was that some bizarre form of karma?
I think not.
Not so much. Human beings seldom get what they deserve. I do not believe in reincarnation either.
I do, reincarnation.
If it is real, there are several people on my list of who deserves some!
The existence of Karma is meaningless to those with good intentions. It’s those that deserve its punishment who need it to be real.
Yes we all have seen such stories happening, but we have also seen people getting away with their wrong doings.
No Karma for us…=D
So happy to see you, Bro.
Haha we do good and will have good, let’s just imagine that part 😀
Same here, always glad to see you. How have you been?
There’s virtually no accounting for any of it. For example, there’s no respectable answer to the age old question why bad things happen to good people.
Yes you are right. This life doesn’t seem to reward all good and punish all bad. That’s why most of the religions remind of the judgment day.
It’s a shame that’s what it takes to frighten some into compliance with what should be intrinsically known, such as the golden rule.
That would leave it to everyone’s own interpretation. There won’t be any human made laws as well if we had to leave everything to intrinsically known, self perceived, intuitive principles.
But I know such discussions have no end, so not gonna continue it further.
Hi No-name, are you relatively new here? Because I am so old but irregular here, so do I know you by any other name? Sorry, asking just because people leave sometimes and them comeback with different name.
Indeed, we know each other. I’ve been warned a while back, however, about a potential doxxer. So I shut down my old account and created a new one to avoid that issue.
From what I understand, children develop a sense of right and wrong at approximately the age of 7 – 15 years. By then, I’d like to think certain things like don’t steal, don’t murder, etcetera are common sense. Unfortunately, some seem to go out of their way to prove me wrong by doing utterly shameful things.
Oh hahahaha suspicious world. I believe it’s simply my right to know if someone comes with different name. But guess that also has different definitions for everyone 😁
Yeah, not everyone’s common senses make sense.
I am just a fellow traveler on the Internet, just concealing my identity ever so slightly.
Okay brother, enjoy travelling around 😁
Please, why? I demand answers ,, anyone.
LOLOL!!!
Buenos, Lily! How are you?
“Karma” is about the fate that awaits you in your next incarnation in the Hinduist idea of reincarnation.
It is not connected to the story you describe, unless the unfortunate woman did something wrong in her previous life.
Karma is commonly used term for cause and effect of our doings, I guess her example fits in a broader meaning.
Karma in that context is a culturally appropriated term, and I can’t help it: I find it correct to stay with the actual meaning.
As you deem right
It seems we’re using the term colloquially rather than the formal definition.
Well, “we” is a relative term.
True but if we were discussing Hinduism or other faiths which believe in reincarnation, I’d like to think that would be rather obvious. Not that I’m trying to nitpick, but it certainly looks as though we are not chatting about the academic meaning of the term, karma.
Although you are right to bring it up as another way to look at the question posted in the OP.
Well, I find the use of a term closely defined by a religion in a meaning outside of its meaning to be – shall we say – insensitive.
The fact that cultural appropriation exists does not mean one has to support it.
As far as I am concerned, Karma has only one meaning. The original meaning is by no means “academic”.
I do not see any justification for changing the meaning of a word taken without asking from another religion or culture.
Like “Christ”, for instance.
Suppose the Hindu people were to use the word “Christ” in the broader sense of “zombie”, seen as Christ rose from the dead and is connected to the apocalypse. That would be just as insensitive. They would call zombie movies “Christ movies” and tell Christians that they are not trying to nitpick, but it was clear that the term wasn’t used academically, too.
The OP asks for quotes on Karma. With the definition I gave, I did just that.
I thus stand by my post.
No need to be so pedantic. Clearly, Disqus is no scholarly journal.
https://wallpapercave.com/wp/2YaB7bH.jpg
I’d have a royal belly laugh until blue in the face should one call the supposedly resurrected a zombie. That certainly would not be the first time.
And what do we take away from this? People are different and have different priorities. That’s kinda trivial, don’t you think?
What is your problem with letting my personal opinion stand?
Why do you think that putting up pictures of deranged psychopathic criminals will have a positive influence on this our discussion about cultural appropriation?
You’re fine. It’s all good. I was merely stating I didn’t think we were actually discussing Brahman beliefs in such a manner. Evidently, you’d like to and that’s not wrong. It’s just veering in a different direction. I am no moderator. Perhaps I should’ve just kept my opinion to myself. I apologize if you believe I am picking on you.
Let’s have a little levity here too. 😉
No apology needed.
I did not intend any discussion about this at all.
I was stating a fact, as the invite was to share quotes on Karma. I had not expected that to turn into a discussion of any kind.
It was merely the only contribution to this topic that I found to be relevant as an observation.
This is a good question! Recommended;).
As for me, I am more of a spiritual person ( not a religious person), which means I believe there is a powerful spirit that is way more stronger than us humans 🌷❤️💜🌷🙏🌷❤️. I don’t know if karma exists or not, cause I know many kind people who live humble lives without that many positive things happen to them. I also know many selfish and arrogant people who come from upper middle-class backgrounds and live a relatively fortunate life due to good lucks, etc. I would hope that karma exists and all the kind souls will be treated by the world kindly 🌷🌷❤️💜❤️🌷🌷❤️🌷. But at the same time, I sometimes question this: If the only reason a person helps others is because he/she believes in karma, then what does it say about his/her belief? In other words, if we only do good things /contribute to the society because we are afraid of punishments if we behave differently, it shows that we do not truly & sincerely care about others from a deep level. We better take good care of others , and treat people with respect and kindness due to the kindness of our own hearts 💕 ( we believe it is the right thing to do), not because of our fear of punishments…But I don’t expect everyone to treat others with much respect, kindness, and lots of compassion, cause life is rough for so many people, and we only have limited energy 🙏❤️🌷💕.
Hi Helena,
It’s good to see you.
I have only edit our auto filter last week and now I will have to do it again.
The ‘he/she’ in your comment was caught by the auto filter. It’s weird as this word shouldn’t be restricted.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful thoughts.

I don’t necessarily believe in karma as most do as it seems to be steeped with negative connotation, as the OP suggests ( ie: woman was greedy and wanton, so basically, she deserved to get cancer and be shunned by the family she once too abandoned).
That to me suggests that people are all for an “eye for an eye” style mentality; something I just cannot work with, nor abide. It’s close to willing BAD onto someone out of spite.
For me at least, a “perfect style” karma for this woman whose actions when younger I don’t condone, would actually be for her family she abandoned to embrace her now, to show her just what given her own prior actions has caused her to miss for perhaps decades.
That reaction to her previous actions would help the others she hurt before, actually maintain their status of “innocence”. Doing what they are doing though, makes them no longer innocent and frankly, just as bad as she was initially.
Just my 2 cents for what it’s worth.
Thank you, Kiz.
And it is very true that for her ex-husband and her two children, to not forgive and not visit her when she was suffering, it even showed that they were just as bad as she had done to them.
Frankly, it’s not necessarily about forgiveness but more about not being caught up in the “payback is a binch” mentality. For me, the payback scenario shows you have learned nothing positive FROM a negative situation but rather, gone with a vengeful mentality. If anything I take back saying they are as bad as her. If anything they are WORSE than her as given she left them perhaps feeling, WHY would they be so dismissive. PS I also reckon the “learned behaviour” default some go to is BS as it just somehow allows people to continue the pattern of cruelty.
I seriously do not get the mindset unfortunately of so many people on this planet. I just don’t.
I am just truly saddened that people would rather “shiv a binch” than actually address issues face on. I am sad that cruelty has just become an accepted norm. 🙁
In a word:
No.
Thank you for coming in….
And I respect your word…:)
You are very welcome.
I might believe in Karma, if it was instant. Know what I mean?

UGH! Wish I could force myself to believed that. I attended two services of his. I had a very enlightening time including having him sign was of his books for me. I like the man very much and he does speak brilliantly. 🙂
Absolutely. What goes around comes around….if not sooner….then later. This above-mentioned story, their karma came too soon luckily….within 2 years. I have seen karma comes around after SO many years and long time making the afflicted party suffer even more.

I believe that we get what we give out.
I have become a little jaded as to that. Some people abuse others kindness “because”.

Heya, P 😀
Hey! I’m looking for a man who will love and care for me. Someone who’s honest, one-woman-guy and faithful. A man who’s hardworking and responsible and knows how to accept who I really am. A man who knows how to respect me all the time and a guy who knows what real love is. Someone who’s really for me and serious to me. A man who will make me happy all the time and for the rest of our lives. You can check my profile.
Karma? Nope.
We are a story-telling species. Stuff happens, and then we invent stories to explain it.
So true. Great post!
“Karma is a word that originates in Sanskrit – the sacred language spoken by the Indians of old – whose root (kr) means to do or act and the suffix (ma) to say effect. In short, karma means action.”
https://www.significadosbr.com.br/karma
That is, the EFFECT FROM ACTION.
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/838b99c5bcf621be2b4e6da4a192aed6f163fcfd53e8afe7520c932998b25b7c.jpg
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
Exodus 20:3-6
Karma is not some law of nature, but the obvious things that happen to people who act cruelly. They bring it on themselves but such action.

I like that one…but to be crystal, my limited understanding of the karmic concept says nothing you do in this life, not the good or bad, will affect your karma now. Those deeds only come into play during your next life in this world. Current karma was predicated by your spirit’s prior manifestations. Like most concepts which stand the test of time, the belief in karma dictates a degree of faith. In this case that belief involves reincarnation…a rebirth of the old spirit in a new vessel.
We believe in that too: The Judgement day. But we don’t believe in reincarnation. We will not come back to the world in any form after we died.
We believe that there are causes and effects, but everything comes from God, and God can bring consequences in the world or later in the Hereafter.
Understood…yet your topic is about karma, and I tend to shy away from how religions differ…at least as regards this channel. Agreed?
Agreed.
But our rules allows religious topic in a civil and a peaceful way.
For once in awhile, but if you see it starts heating up, you or I can close this. Agreed?
That’s why I am cautious, you are nearing sleep and I’m about to be busy with this day’s efforts. When the cat’s away… 😉
Shy away…
Go and have a wonderful busy day..:)
An English term with dual meaning, in this instance:
Verb. 1. shy away from – avoid having to deal with some unpleasant task; “I shy away from this task” avoid – stay clear from; keep away from; keep out of the way of someone or something; “Her former friends now avoid her”
Later, tater 😉
That is precious and thank you.
I took that correctly as ‘to avoid’..:)
When the cat’s away, the mice will play. 😉
Very interesting.
Hello Merlin, … It’s been a long time. It’s always nice to see you out and about.
I’ve missed ya. Hope your new year is off to a nice start. 🙂
I said karma would need to be instant before I became a believer. Haha
Yes, but not in any supernatural sense. I believe immoral lifestyles often result in harmful effects. In this case the younger man’s adultery showed a reckless disregard for society and may well have also led to a reckless disregard for safety and traffic laws.
It has been shown that stress can reduce the bodies resistance to disease and her inner conflicts could have made her an easier target for her cancer.
I think the lesson here is to try to live right and forgive yourself when you fail.
Agreed.
To try to live right and don’t blame others when bad things happen :))
Well said
Thank you…
Here here.

Sure, live a scuzzy life and scuzzy things tend to happen to you. See it all the time. Bad decisions multiply.
Sometimes the hardest person to forgive is yourself.
Yes, and when one considers that God will forgive you the question arises for the believer.
Are you better than God???
:))

aww so cute
I’m undecided. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmcA9LIIXWw
That’s an ear worm for sure 😉
I’m undecided too. I think bad things happen to good people and it has nothing to do with karma.
5/10 for that comment.
What does that mean?
War what is it good for?
Oh, if only we all could agree how to put an end to it?
G’night Paul
ER won’t put an end to it she enjoys it. Goodnight CU.
Please, don’t go there here in Murn’s. I know it’s not easy to ignore, but you can.
Karma, it would need to be instant before I was believer.
Hi How are you ?
Hi. Who are you? A friend of Pud’s.. I haven’t seen him around since the demise of the disqus channels.
I am Purple… ( Sam ) .. Yes I am Pud’s Friend.
https://study.com/academy/lesson/the-hindu-belief-system-darma-karma-and-moksha.html
In order to trust in the existence of karma-as-a-spiritual-principle, it seems one must first believe that one has an ultimate spiritual essence separate from the body & brain. Then one must accept that this “essence” travels with a person between lives or incarnations or multiple mortal probations. Then one must believe that “karma” — i.e. a person’s actions in life will determine their fate in the next life — determines something about why we are in the lives we are today. They were determined by our past lives.
Then there’s the belief in the release from the birth-life-death-reincarnate cycle.
I do not believe in Karma as in the illustration provided. To me that is just life, and the number of people who escape the vicissitudes of life is very small. “Time and chance happen to them all”. In a larger sense to believe in Karma one must believe that there is the Dharma. That there is balance, and that it is how it is. That I believe. But for balance to be achieved may take far longer than a lifetime. “The mills of the Gods grind terrible slow, but they grind so exceedingly fine.”
Live your life. It is a mystery to be explored, not a problem to be solved.
I believe that every action has consequences and that God would give the consequences during our life time or later in the afterlife. Hinduism call it karma, and the word Karma is becoming common in some followers of other religions in the community that they also call it karma for bad things that happen to someone as a result of their bad deeds towards others even though the true concept of karma is not deeply understood.

one would like to think…..or believe in a universal justice….I’ve found it to be a haphazard thing, just like on Earth….atonement for evils is a human concept…..it has been portrayed through out our history in fables, tales and religion….
Good Morning Mark,
I respect what you believe and thank you for sharing. Much appreciated.
everyone comes to his/her own conclusions…
Or conclusions from their predecessors or from other people who are then copied / pasted.
mine are based on observation, nothing more….40yrs worth….
40 years observation is certainly more real than reading a stack of books or listening people’s opinions.
It happens to some, but not to all… It’s actually hard to say. But in our psyche we need to feel there’s universal justice for those who deserve it… It’s at the core of our “goodness”…

Very nice!!!
Hello Riz, … Aw, I’ve missed seeing you and your great contributions out here.
Hope all is well with you and yours and this new year is off to a fine start. 🙂
hey CommUnique.. your kind 🙂
Its been very tricky this month personally.. Hope everything is great at your end.
Hello, … You are a beautiful member. I just love it when I see what you contribute out here.
I have no doubt you are very kind too. 🙂
Thank you very much for your kind words..
I do believe in consequences. Pardon me for using Religion here, but there is a saying, that, If any one is oppressed, then their cry of desparation directly reaches Almighty God.
In the case here, the woman for her lust abondaned the real wealth and went with false wealth.
A real wealth for a man & woman is his/ her family and their kids. Definitely God hears the cry of the children whom she left and the cries of the righteous husband.
She got her due. And if the family didnt forgive her. i am afraid there is far more consequences awaiting her in the soul world and hereafter.
Good to see you, Riz,
Yes, everything comes from God, and God to forgive or giving reward to those who deserve, who does good deed.
my pleasure sis 🙂
To some it is Karma. To others it is what you sow you shall reap. Both good and bad.
I do believe, most religions have some Karma-like concept.
And I’ve also seen it in action, both good and bad.
Very true…

I’ve found as a non religious person that this is simply a good concept. Good people that treat others well tend to attract other good people. Jerks attract jerks..
I definitely agree.
Absolutely, unequivocally yes!
I have seen it too many times, not to believe it!🐦
Morning, miLady!

No, not really. At least not in the typical sense.
Well yes. The bible sais what measure you meet will be met to you. In otherwords. What ever you do will come back to you. Both good, and bad.
Exactly
You get served what you deserve.
Hello Ms Lisa. 🙂
I’ve stated I would believe it it were instant. Haha
Hope you’re well.
It’s been my observation that most people misunderstand the actual mechanics of karma. I see that the poster, tempest, views the concept correctly as its creators intended.
I think it is to remind us that what we do will come back to us.
But with the child in what Tempest mentioned, is that the Karma from their parent?
Evening, sweets…kindly permit me to answer via copy/paste:
Reincarnation, a major tenet of Hinduism, is when the soul, which is seen as eternal and part of a spiritual realm, returns to the physical realm in a new body. A soul will complete this cycle many times, learning new things each time and working through its karma. This cycle of reincarnation is called samsara.
Good morning,
That’s very difference than the concept we believe.
Karma in our concept is a law of cause and effect or consequences, there is action and there is reaction. If we do good, we will get good rewards, if we do bad we will get bad rewards too. There is no hereditary sin in our beliefs because God forgives those who repent and does not repeat their mistakes. 🙂
Merlin, karma is a religious concept, and all religions are based upon arguments from authority. So, what religion is it that says that what we do in this life in only karma if we feel its effects in the next life?
The reason I’m asking is that karma is obviously closely related to our traditional Western concept of justice, which is where we get what’s coming to us, for better or for worse. Corollary to our concept of justice is that it must be swift and certain. Justice delayed is justice denied. What would the religion you are basing your definition of karma on have to say about justice? How do you think karma relates to justice?
Hinduism and Buddhism are old religions and quite beyond my ability to explain with any degree of certainty. The Golden Rule seems to suffice for me and is as close to karmic concepts as I get.
Merlin, we certainly agree on the Golden Rule!
The reason I asked about karma was that I went from being what I called a nontheist, to Zen Buddhism, to Christianity. I understood that Karma does effect us in the next life according to this belief system, but I’d never considered that it couldn’t have effects in this life as well.
Karma does affect this life, but it’s not the karma created in this one. Think of it as old and new karma, old affects us now…the new will impact the next life. Could be wrong, only human after all, yet I think my comprehension was correct as it was explained to me.
Time for me to go, make this day a good one, Brother…
Whew *heavy sigh … I would so like to question what the heck I/some did to deserve what’s happened in their lifetime. I grapple with how / what to believe about reincarnation. Ugh!
Karma is an eastern/Oriental expression that denotes an anthropological universal, which is religion/morality. The fact is that there are no atheist/secular societies that have survived the long term. This is because religion/morality are more than superior survival strategies; they are absolutely necessary for any kind of civilization. What religion/morality allow for is replacing the Darwinian struggle of the survival of the fittest with notions of cooperation, justice, and fairness.
As for Karma, Karma distinguishes between those of us who play by moral rules and those who don’t. Those who play by moral rules will almost always come out ahead in the long run.
It’s just another system of belief. However, one needn’t religion to have a positive moral compass.
NN, the owner of this channel frowns on discussions of religion or politics. So, suffice it to say I disagree.
Yet here we are. I didn’t inject religion into this conversation. However, morality predates religion.
Karma is an awful concept. It says that the child who is raped and murdered in this life was deserving of it because they did something in a past life. Gross.
It is gross.
Whose concept of Karma is that?
That what happens to you n this life is because of what you did in another. Was I unclear?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karma
It’s Hinduism.
Merlin posted a copy/paste quote if you’d like to see his comment with that quote.
Hi, no thanks, I scrolled up. Most people think that the concept of Karma is with regard to this life. “Karma’s a bitch” do bad have bad things happen to you. But when you look at it through the lens of reincarnation t opens things up to all sorts of horrors and discrimination. The Untouchables (lowest cast) deserve their miserable fate.
The higher casts get to shrug t the injustices of their society because what happens in this life is directly related to the last.
I don’t believe in any religious twaddle, including Karma. But the concept has done real world harm. In the past and today.
Let’s take the easy point that there are always consequences for what we do, we do good will reap good and vice versa.
Hello, I’m new here, and stuck in pending…
