My wife and I purchased a German Shepherd about 3 months ago. This was one of the best decisions we have ever made.
After some begging and pleading from my wife, we came to a compromise because I was not really wanting another mouth to feed. So here was the compromise, I would pay for all dog related things and she could pick out the dog as long as it was a German Shepherd.
I grew up in a family that always had dogs. My mom always (and still does) had shih tzus and I had two German Shepherds (one was a shepherd malamute mix) while growing up.
My first German Shepherd was half malamute and she was a great dog. I got her when I was like 11 years old and she was so much fun. She would pull me on my skateboard all over town. I got quite a reputation as the kid who gets pulled around town by a wolf. She looked like a wolf … she had the color pattern of a malamute with the two tone hair of a wolf/shepherd. She was not a wolf, but everyone thought she was. Someone stole that dog out of our backyard as she was very friendly and loved everyone. She would never leave the yard even when she got lose unless she saw me with a leash and a skateboard. Losing that dog was quite upsetting for me at the time, she was my best friend.
When I turned 17 we moved to a very rural area and my mom let me get another dog. We went to the local animal shelter and the people told us to go look at all the dogs and see if we saw one we liked. So there is this long line of chain link dog kennels with cement floors probably 30 or more. When we entered this place all the dogs went nuts. They were all barking and raising hell and jumping on the gates wanting attention. So I walked down the line looking at all these poor shelter Dogs and they were going nuts…
In all this chaos and noise I saw her. She was a German Shepherd pup about 3 or four months old. She was sitting near the gate looking at me not making a sound. When I stopped to look at her she just kind of wobbled her head from side to side the way German shepherds do when they are curious about something. She was not barking or jumping or going crazy like all the other poor dogs in there …. So without asking the attendant that was with us … I just opened her gate and let her out. She walked out of her cage and sat down right beside me and looked at me with those big brown eyes. Just as calm as if she was trained already. She was very calm and very smart and I instantly fell in love with her! The attendant saw what I did and came over saying something about “you are not supposed to let them out” or something along those lines. He started to reach down to grab the dog and the dog got behind me and I told him to leave the dog alone… that it was now my dog and we needed to fill out the paperwork because she was now my dog. The male attendant gave me an evil glare and I just stood there eyeballing him back, even at 17 I would not take any gruff from grown men, and this guy figured that out as I would not get out of his way to let him grab the dog.
I named her Babe… she was the sweetest dog. She stayed at my moms house for her entire life and was an “outside” dog for her whole life. She was so smart and so sweet. I tried to take her with me a couple times when I moved … but she was never happy in the house or on a chain and I could never afford a big place in the country like my mom had, so I took her back.
She was very loyal and loved everyone, but she had a special place for me. I used to go over to my moms and pick her up in my 280 zx and put the seatbelt on her in the passenger seat .. I don’t think she understood that she was not a human. She lived about 10 years and died a happy, free, well cared for and loved dog …. I am tearing up a little ….
So enter my 40s and I get a wife and all the kids move out (eventually) and my wife is bored and sad because she has no one besides me to love and take care of (she is the sweetest woman and I will be eternally grateful that she married me) So we make a compromise … because she wants a pet.
So my wife starts looking over the internet to find a German Shepherd to buy. We visited the local kennel but unfortunately all they had were Pitt bull mix mutts because … well I don’t know … all idiots like pitt bulls and they often end up in shelters. I worked in two animal hospitals when I was in high school and college and learned to hate pitt bulls and chows …. those are the two dumbest most worthless breeds of dogs ever created (my opinion)
Well we found some people with puppies .. they were not dog breeders, they just happened to have two German Shepherds that had puppies and they were trying to sell them. The father was a huge East German dog and the mother was a American AKC German Shepherd. I was working as usual and my wife went to pick out the puppy. My only instructions were to get one with nice ears. She was the first one to get a puppy so she got to pick from the entire litter…. so she picked the biggest most dominant puppy out of the litter because it was the only one with perfect ears at such a young age (8 weeks) This dog had attitude before we got her !
So she is almost 5 months old now. She broke her foot after we got her and I cried. I love this dog. She is very loyal and much more protective and fierce compared to the other two shepherds I had before. She must get that from the East German line as they are breed more for guard/working dog roles than the American AKC shepherds who are breed more for looks. So I have one of the prettiest German Shepherds you have ever seen. I ran into a local guy who trains East German dogs as police dogs at the animal hospital and he was very impressed with my puppy… he wanted to know the breeder and how much I paid for her ….. When I told him the dog came out of someones house and not a breeder and I only paid $250 for her … he was a little put off. He asked me if I was going to breed her as he would be interested in matching her with one of his dogs. I declined, She is my baby and I will have her neutered so she stays pretty… because that’s what I want and there are already plenty of dogs in this world.
So yea … I have the worlds most awesome … most intelligent dogs ever … And me and my wife love and care for this girl like she is a child of ours… and she is a trip … She is very energetic and very sweet with me and my wife. Everyone who comes around our home gets the same teeth showing hair raised up on the back (I will chew your face off) greeting unless me or my wife tell her to sit …. then she is instantly a nice sweet dog who wants to play. I work long hours and sometimes have to be gone at night. I don’t worry about my wife now as we have this dog and I promise no one will mess around the house or with my wife as long as this dog is around. That is a nice feeling when you can actually trust a dog to be reliable and smart.
Well I hope this was not too long…. I love my new dog and if you are looking for the worlds perfect pet, I would suggest you get a German Shepherd.
Thanks for reading and please share your dog stories 🙂

I’ve used this one before…a favorite!
Hi BBQman,
I hope all is well on your end!
It’s going well, another beautiful day!
Good to hear.
The weather in Chicagoland has been great also.
A good friend of mind (RIP) grew up in Chicago in a neighborhood she called Tinsel park….I miss her, sometimes she visits me in my dreams and advices me to reach for the stars….mathematically.
While not on German Shepherds, I just saw where Chaser the border collie has died. She was the reputed smartest dog in the world, being able to retrieve over a thousand toys by name on command, in addition to understanding other commands. The video at the end of this story shows what I’m talking about, including this dog understanding the process of elimination by pairing up the strange name with the toy she’s never seen:
https://nypost.com/2019/07/29/chaser-the-worlds-smartest-dog-dies-at-15/amp/
Un-freaking-believable. Thank you for sharing it with us, Matthew!
Yep, Chaser was the inspiration for me to train my own border collie, though my dog only has about three hundred toys. Of course, my dog is also trained for herding duties.
i had a German Shepherd named Inga. Good dog. Good dog but not too smart. Best Dog was my Baby – a Shepherd and Golden mix. Buried in my backyard under a fig tree.
A mix of Shepherd and Golden must look beautiful.
Sorry for the lost. RIP Baby.
Man Alive,my German Shepherd, Wolf nearly killed a cat crossing my back yard today ,was shaking the cat like a rag doll!🐺😳
Your beautiful Wolf.
Is that the way he protects your property?
Yes,I watch him sitting like a guard dog looking right and left for anything that crosses our yard, then if he sees anything ,then the German Shepherd in him takes over!🐺🐺🐺
The one dog that everyone is obsessed over now, and I cannot fathom why because they are useless as pets, are pit bulls
I agree. They can be aggressive and unpredictable. At best … they are friendly, and stupid, as far as dogs go. If you take good care of them and treat them well, you might end up with a friendly pet … I feel sorry for people who think Pitt Bulls are the best dogs because that just proves they have never had a really good, smart Dog … and that’s sad … because I do like dogs. Chows are even dumber on average than pitts …. my opinion

I prefer hunting breeds. This is me with my two English Springers. I have also owned two German Shorthairs. The Springers are great people-pleasing dogs
One of my first friends in life was a German Shepard. When I was born my parents had a German Shepard and he guarded my crib. I wish I had the photo to post but I remember a photo of me an my bassinet and Max the German Shepard sitting right next to me. I think this is why I have always loved animals.
My dog figured out how to get on the bed yesterday. She thought this was a great accomplishment. My wife did not think it was so great ….
So when she was a puppy and would get a sock or something she was not supposed to have … she would hide under the bed… Now she is too big to get under the bed …
I yelled at her to get off the bed and she jumped down and stuck her head under the bed (because the rest is too big to fit now…..
Me and my wife cracked up …. The dog sticks her head under the bed … like she was hiding and I could not see the rest of her body … Last night my wife put the Dog in the bed and she was very happy … She is a super spoiled sweety.

Never had a purebred German Shepard. I have had dogs that were half or three quarter German Shepard cross. The Shepard genes always came through strongest. Wonderful friends and protectors, and a better judge of people than I am. . My first picked me, as the puppy in the shelter did in the story. They have to pick you. I would only add that if you have a dog that is part of your life and a decision comes up where it’s the dog or the house, or the dog or the job, or “It’s me or the dog”, always pick the dog. The only big mistakes I have made in life were when I did not listen to my heart and failed to choose the dog. Jobs and people come and go; the love of a dog is forever.
AGREED !!!!!!!
Stan, first let me compliment you on your writing skills; excellent! First, a part of your comment:
She must get that from the East German line as they are breed more for guard/working dog roles than the American AKC shepherds who are breed more for looks.
Now, here is a list of the ten smartest dog breeds, then my pet peeve with the American Kennel Club:
Border Collie
The Border collie is energetic, affectionate, and — of course — smart. A Border collie dog is a true working dog excelling in sheep herding, athleticism, agility, and cuddling. Border collies are also known for their “herding eye,” an intense gaze used to stare down and herd other animals.
Poodle
The poodle is the seventh most popular dog breed and for good reason. Poodles not only are very smart, but they’re also proud, active dogs, with the added benefit of being hypoallergenic. Because of their high intelligence, poodles can be easily trained to track, hunt, retrieve, and obey. In fact, poodles are the national dog of France where they were first used as retrievers.
German Shepherd
It’s no surprise that a German shepherd is the second most popular dog breed because they’re courageous, confident, and smart. They are excellent all-purpose workers and are used in a number of specialized situations as police dogs or service dogs. German shepherds don’t always give affection lightly, but they are fiercely loyal family dogs that are great with kids.
Golden Retriever
Golden retrievers are intelligent, friendly, and devoted sporting dogs. Goldens take their jobs to heart and try to be the best at what they do, whether it’s hunting, serving as a seeing-eye dog, working in search-and-rescue, or simply being a loving companion.
Doberman Pinscher
Besides strength, endurance, and speed, Doberman pinschers have the smarts necessary to retain training in order to be an in-demand police dog or war dog. There is even a bronze Doberman pinscher statue titled “Always Faithful” at the National War Dog Cemetery in Guam to honor the dogs — mostly Dobermans — that were killed in service during the Second Battle of Guam in 1944.
Shetland Sheepdog
The Shetland sheepdog is basically a miniature working collie. They are playful and intelligent herding dogs that love to learn new tricks and play with kids. Shelties are affectionate and loyal with their families. But they’re also great watchdogs because they are reserved towards strangers and have a tendency to bark at people.
Labrador Retriever
Besides being intelligent, gentle, and family-friendly, Labrador retrievers are also the most popular dog breed in the United States. Because Labs want to please their Pack Leader, they are excellent guide dogs and rescue dogs.
Papillon
The papillon is an alert, friendly, and happy dog. Papillon means “butterfly” in French, and the papillon was given this name because of its butterfly-like ears. Papillons aren’t shy or aggressive and are especially fast and versatile little athletes that can be trained to do all kinds of tricks.
Bloodhound
Bloodhounds are known for their long wrinkled faces and big droopy ears, but they’re also known for being independent, inquisitive, and friendly. As far as intelligence, bloodhounds have been recognized for their determination and scenting power as far back as the third century.
Rottweiler
The Rottweiler is a loyal, loving, confident guard dog who wants to work. Because of this, Rottweilers are best suited to be service dogs, police dogs, herders, therapy dogs, devoted companions, or obedience competitors.
The border collie is number one, and actually in a class by itself in terms of intelligence and the ability to work well with people. The first reason is the AKC; as Stan so sagely noted, the AKC breeds for show conformation standards rather than ability. The homely, scruffy border collie is the exception. They were bred only for their ability to understand and follow complicated herding instructions from the shepherd.
The bigger reason though is that, surprisingly, people don’t want highly intelligent dogs; the border collie is the most abandoned dog breed in the country. So, rather than have a dog that needs constant challenge to remain content, most people would rather have a dog that sleeps most of the time.
As Ken hinted at, the way around getting a dumb but lovable dog is to look for a working dog. So, if one wants a really smart lab, look for one that comes from hunting lines. If one wants a really smart German shepherd, look for one bred for protection duties, which was the German shepherd’s real duty rather than herding.
The one catch is that while all dogs are fiercely loyal to their owners, working dogs tend not to be the friendly tail-waggers most AKC dogs are. When I bought my border collie, the fellow who sold her to me was alarmed when I said wanted her for a pet in addition to herding duties. So, he picked out the friendliest one for me. All I can say is I’d sure hate to meet her litter mates with attitudes!
As with everything else, there are tradeoffs. We have to know exactly what we want from a dog.
Those are very informative list.
Thank you for sharing, Dunny. Much appreciated.
My favorite dog breed is there: Labrador Retriever. I did notice they are smart, loyal and loving. What I loved about them the most are how cute face they have and their short hair made them easier to take care of.
The Yellow Labradors have been my favorite.

Dear Murn.. Because my first account has been maliciously attacked …. I have created a second account as George fs 2.
I sent three pictures to this topic and they didn’t show up … There is a problem
Hi Dear George.
I am sorry that happens to you too.
Please tag me with your new account so I know it’s you.
Mine still don’t stop losing upvotes although I don’t see downvotes on later comments.
I have created the new account too at the same day this site was created, but I only use that new account to send the invites for now.
Let me check on the moderation panels. If they were kept in pending, I’ll release them.
Yep, I had a black lab her entire life, and a yellow lab that ran off when she was four years old. Labs are the typical lazy AKC dogs I described.
Just to show the difference in intelligence, I had to house train my lab to go potty outside, though it wasn’t difficult. Even though my border collie was forty-five days old when I got her, she came toilet trained! All I had to do was put her outside and she went. When she gained full control of her bowels and bladder at about fifteen weeks, she hasn’t gone in the house since. Labs are quick learners; with border collies, it’s usually only necessary to tell them something once. They have an uncanny ability to intuit what their owners want.
You and Mrs. Dunnyveg need to get together; she wants another lab in the worst way.
I wonder if they are difference as our Sammy was not that lazy, but we only had her until 6 months, maybe she didn’t show at the early age….:)) She liked to run and crashed into flower pots and made us laughed so hard as how happy her face looked that time.
You are right about the intelligence, I do remember how she liked to bite shoes but once we said it’s not allowed, she stopped completely.
Thank you Mrs Dunnyveg, we are in the same Labradors lovers club..:))
But what worst way is that? =D
Yep, after having a pit bull mix that was loyal, but not very smart, I really appreciate intelligent dogs. About a year back, Mrs. Dunnyveg disturbed our border collie while she was sleeping, and Rebel snapped at Mrs. Dunnyveg. Mrs. Dunnyveg didn’t tell me about it until an hour or so later when we were sitting at the dinner table. Since this wasn’t the first time Rebel had snapped at her or others, I started dressing her down in a stern voice. Rebel then groveled over to Mrs. Dunnyveg and licked her feet; she knew exactly why I was mad, and that she had done wrong.
“In the worst way” is a Southern idiom for really wanting something–well–badly : )
I just knew that pit bull are not smart. I am not too fan for them, their face aren’t beautiful..:)
Poor Mrs Dunnyveg,
You would get the Labrador she wants very soon then…
Thank you for the knowledge, I appreciate the explanation you put in there.
Murn, it was my pleasure; I’m an unapologetic dog lover. The problem is that Mrs. Dunnyveg only wants a white lab, which are hard to find. It seems a lot of people want those.
Enjoy your new episode of Vikings!
People believe the black labs are the most intelligent but I like the yellow and white the most. I hope you find the white lab for Mrs Dunnyveg soon. That will make her very happy to have a new puppy she likes.
The Viking was okay as it was the 1st episode. I’m sure the next episodes will be more fun. Thank you..:))
Have a very good morning out there.

Murn, the problem is those white labs are hard to find!
This guy, he has been breeding Labradors and sell them…:))

Maybe just get regular lab and then get a white sweater? 😉
Yep, and Mrs. Dunnyveg would be nailing my white hide to the barn door : )
Seriously, I’ve been wanting to get a sweater for my border collie that reads: WILL WORK FOR FOOD.
Lol!
One more note: By “lazy” I don’t mean they’re asleep when they aren’t eating. What I mean is that if you’re busy, the lab will patiently wait on you. Not so the border collie. They were bred to run after sheep from first light to dusk. They don’t nap the way most dogs do. They have to be challenged both mentally and physically or these dogs will become destructive, or most tragic of all, start mutilating themselves.
I would prefer to call the wait as patience and loyal as they would mostly do things with their masters. Dogs are always about ‘us’ but I notice Labradors are more about ‘us’. The border collie sounds hyperactive, and chasing sheep from first light to dusk…..that sounds very funny yet hateful…=DD
I think one huge difference between border collies and other breeds is that whereas it’s enough for most dogs to get taken care of along with a bit of attention and affection. Border collies are more like people; they must also feel needed and useful, and like people, it’s good for them to be challenged sometime. But they aren’t hyperactive in the least; when my dog wants to do something, she’ll sit and stare at me with a look that asks, and what are we going to do now? My wish is your command…..
The interesting thing about this breed is that while they’re notorious for snapping and trying to herd unwary people, they very rarely bite. Back when most border collies were used for herding sheep, it was considered desirable for the border collie to nip or snap at the heels of recalcitrant sheep. But if the dog ever bit hard enough to draw blood, it was standard to kill the dog on the grounds that it could no longer be trusted.
You have just made my day, thank you Murn.
I love them too….so pleasing and cute.
I am glad you like them.
Those are some adorable puppies !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Labradors are still my favorite although I like almost all dogs including GS.
Do you love German Shepherds? Yep, sure do!

So sweet. I have one puppy and four cats.
That must be fun to have them…:)
I’ll like to have puppy Labrador again later when my cat Tommy grows older so I can one kitten and one puppy and raise them together.
My adult cats don’t mind dogs.` The funny thing is that two of my cats hates other cats but has no problems with dogs. And they were not raised with dogs. They just like dogs.
Good night..:)

Ohh goodness they’re such sloppy droolers; and cute !
I know….it’s so cute.
Beautiful.
I love all dogs and the German Shepherd is truly a great companion, but I am I Labrador Retriever fan. I’ m having my 5th and 6th Labs currently and it is for no reason that they are voted the no 1 dog. Labradors have won America’s most popular dog breed for the 25th year in a row, according to the American Kennel Club, and it is easy to see why! If you know a lab, you know how affectionate, fun-loving, and easily trainable these dogs can be.

OMG…. so cute and fun. Love watching them.
That’s one of the parts I like the most about them is how they run while wagging their ears….so fun
Loveeee …them.
They are family. I adore them.
I will be away for a week but I will try and stay in touch.
Beautiful family.
Enjoy your away time and good luck in anything you do.
Don’t worry about trying to in touch if you don’t have the chance, we’ll just see you when you are back.

They could be.
They do look alike.
Celebrity dogs..:))
Awesome.
I think so he is handsome..
Very nice color combination.
Handsome fellow!
Wow, beautiful!
That’s a beautiful dog
First of all, pit bulls are NOT the dumbest animals ever…they are the smartest, most loving dogs ever! As long as they are not raised by creeps who train them to be mean.
My first dog before my Molly and Max was Sadie…half german shepherd and half chow. Actually assumed chow. My husband found her as a tiny pup in a field when on a job and brought her home. The vet guessed the other half was chow as she had a purple tongue. She looked just like a german shepherd except on the small side. The best, most even tempered and smart dog ever.
You know how you hang pics of your kids on the wall? Well, I also have pics of my pups…my beautiful babies at all ages…just like the kids. lol.
Hi Molly,
You are on our white list now.
Thank you for coming in…:)
Thank you Murn…:)
Yay Molly and Max !
Most welcome…:)
I have mixed feelings about my pibble. He is friendly. Possibly dangerous to cats. Seems to be pretty good with kids and other dogs. He is exuberant. He also can clear a 6 foot fence without touching it. He jumps 9 feet in the air and hangs off my dogwood tree. I have a large cable run because I just can’t keep him in the yard if he gets a wild hair. The only thing I worry about is people freak out. He really has more of the personality of a Labrador. He’s not mean. He did kill a sage rat once. He tends to jump on people. I wish he’d calm down a little. But he’s young. He’ll probably calm down a little some day.
They are all more rambunctious as puppies… and so darn cute !
He’s 3 now and he’s only calmed down a little. He is on a 40 foot overhead steel cable, with a 12 foot drop lead and he’s made 40 feet of 3/8 inch steel cable into 43 feet of steel cable just by stretching it. He’ll walk nice with me until SQUIRREL and then I have two collars to make sure I don’t lose him.
Purple tonques ! They’re very protective of their owners !
And the pictures……?
Stan! where are the pics?
You always have pics.
I took a bunch yesterday when I took her for a walk on a long nature trail near my house. Now I need to get my wife to figure out how to get them on my computer ….
I suck at technology
That pic is the OP looks good. It looks like she was full and smiling happily after having breakfast with marijuana…=DDD
Great article Stan.
Thank you ER…. I appreciate that 🙂
And excellence writing too.
Use the same cord you use for charging, and plug it into the matching port.

Another option. On your (iPhone i assume) send it to your email, and then go to your email on your desktop, and retrieve.
3) Directly from phone. Go to the article, and edit.
Click button to add pic, then add.
My instructions aren’t the best. I learned everything from trial and error.

Yes, and they are very smart.
Morning DG…:))
Thank you Murn.
Most welcome.
Another beautiful one.

Most welcome, my friend.
Hello my dearest fair lady of the land!!!
This is Murni and I last year on vacation!! We made up a song called Happy talk!
Her mother wouldn’t leave us alone though,….

=DDD
You are so funny.
I just came back from a long holiday tho…and it was the real one.
So this account is just to send the invites. I still use the old account for the regular comments.
I’ll come back later. It’s still work hours here.
Oh, you must have been gone on vacation for weeks then?
You going to offer up pics and articles about it?
It was two weeks.
Yes, I do take many pics. I would want to put up a topic about it but better later…:))
My other account I never use. lets se. test.
Must love dogs. 🐶

I like Golden retriever too.
Although my favorite dogs are Labradors.

I like my pibble.
💞 Me too !! Nice young bachelor !! Wufff!!
So adorable!!!!
You big softie!!
Enjoyed reading this!
Thank you Shirley .. I am glad you liked it 🙂
I did enjoy reading it too.
That proves that Stan is a good story teller and he can write.
…and a good heart!
True. I agree.
And that is more important than anything else.
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/fdd5c83a1887468040faafa5914e3fdec9b6c46eac57ac28c32791317dff9e87.jpg
German Shepherds are very nice. My favourite dogs, in terms of appearance, are Siberian Huskies, but they’re very hard to keep happy in the kind of climate I live in.
https://images.app.goo.gl/iuj4B6aeaT9jQWxb7
A lot of dog breeding worries me. We’ve bred some dogs to be too small and oddly shaped, to the point they find it difficult to walk.
True … very true
Hey Roach,
I love huskies in the Eight Below with Paul Walker in it.
It’s a true story of surviving huskies.

Hi Murn, that’s a good picture there. Paul Walker was an actor I quite liked – I was never a big fan of The Fast and the Furious, but I liked his character Brian O’Connor. It’s sad, what happened to Paul Walker.
I like him too and unlike you I did watch all the FF….:))
It was a tragic car accident, it’s terribly sad.
RIP Paul Walker.
Send them my way !! 💞
Sure..:))
My youngest son is 26. He lives with me.( I am disabled and single and he is here to help me out and yes he works.) He has always wanted a German Shepard. We have never had one. I have a 8yr old chi. He had saved up $800 so in Sept. we headed to my other son’s place in Idaho. I stayed with grandkids while they headed for Spokane WA to check out ad’s in the paper. The first place they went only had two left. Both females. 8wks old. One black the other black and tan. I guess the black one sniffed both my sons and was off doing her own thing. The black/tan went straight to my youngest son wagged her tail, played a little with him with a toy, climbed in his lap curled up and did not move.He had been chosen. Well we now have her here at home in MT. While she can be a lot, sometimes we both love her and would never give her up. While she loves mama and has already made it clear with a stranger that came to door she was aware of him and watching him she sat by my side. Her warning growl was all it took to know this baby would protect me also. As for my son he is her sun and moon. She loves that boy. YES German Shepards are the greatest and what is there not to love bout them?
Oh and yes she is purebred he payed $500 for her .
That’s a good price … some people want over $1,000
In one word: no.
No Dog or No German Shepard?
I’m not that attached to GS. I don’t hate them, I just don’t particularly like them.
Okay, GS isn’t my favorite either.
But do you like other dog breeds?
Mostly, it depends on the individual. There’s a really lovable Flatcoated Retriver in the neighbourhood. Also an unidentifiable cross between (to resort to the local patois) “steam heating and broomstick”. Really nice dogs.
I agree, they are very nice dogs too.
I like them more when they are puppies…
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/4351371e2186022b79af00c3536ef200952ff4df967d93abbbb756c6be91f8f9.jpg
While I’m more of a Beagle guy, I’ve never met a dog I didn’t like.
I can show you some.
I’m not even mad at the dog who attacked me last year…
I’m not mad at them either. The one I’m referring to are simply insane. It’s not their fault, but that doesn’t make them less dangerous.
Beagles are cute little buggers ….
I have a Beagle/Hong Kong Sharpei mix. Luckily, she isn’t quite as noisy as a beagle. She’s still plenty noisy. And kind of a pest. She pesters my pitbull all the time. I’d bite her. Luckily he thinks she’s mommy and likes the attention. She grabs him by the back legs and drags him around like a puppy. He has 25 pounds on her, but he loves his mommy.
What’s NOT to love about German Shepherds?!
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/088b46b227f1ea7ec99fb3b69cbfcd997e7031dbdc9551cdb6ce009b9e0b6c2c.jpg
RECOMMENDED
For one:
They are Europeans.
You are right, what’s not to love about us.
For two:
They are Germans.
You are right, what’s not to love about us.
Therefor, thank you for the flowers.
But then some stupid people call them just
“a dog” and that is really insulting if it weren’t a testament of the speakers abysmall a brain.
Last but not least. Memetime
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/c28fb3c6044d8a2c56ee20b82212c6bd7dec2906deb64d945f48a033aa502d87.jpg
Not known to many folks outside our borders is that they do – as do we – understand german.
They do not like to be yelled at, their hearing is very good. So communicate with your dog in a reasonable tone, be nice and it might be that he does for you what he does for me.
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/f4eed5f2f756438d3433204153f611facf59c7e4eabf2c2c989b75824a581155.jpg
The needed command word is: Staubsaugen.
I only speak English to my dog … maybe that’s why she does not listen sometimes .
Try Esperanto.
Yeah, next time you see … someone you do not wish to see, try this command:
FAß!
Wow…good to know.
What does that mean?
Last minute of this video shows how a well trained german sheperd should react when you command the canine to FAß
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8Ympx2wecY
I watched it all. It’s so fun watching how they are trained.
I wonder is they have the same reaction when they are trained in other language.
If you get them as puppies probably.
Such handsome dogs.
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/3ebe421606b47abc1886090ffdfce626d0631073f3a90e71cf7a2445124848b7.jpg
They are beautiful animals !
They are beautiful dogs, unfortunately, they don’t grow well in the beach weather in where I live. They would only look good when they stay more in the air conditioned room.
Labradors are always my favorite as I had one before.
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/f93f1aba646aedc77ce7d6fe1ed054224e0511247e209062e738c84a2cedfd4f.jpg
Those are good dogs
They’re wonderful, intelligent animals.
Awwwwww!!!!!! Look at that face.
Handsome ! Just a sweet heart fellar !!
