“Some people are morning exercisers. For them, an early run or swim is as much a part of their wake-up ritual as that first cup of coffee. Others can’t abide the idea. They need a nighttime workout to rid themselves of the day’s stresses. Does it make a difference? Several recent studies suggest that it does.”
A well-known athletic shoe company used to say in its advertising – is to just do it, regardless of when.

both….morning, its like kinda heavy to start without jogging, stretching n like

This is one of the better people I’ve come across. Just saying
Thanks for the invite. I may stop by sometime. 🙂
Hi Angela,
Welcome to our site.
I hope you can enjoy the fun for being here.
Thank you, Murn and thanks for adding me to the tag list. 🙂
Every morning I wake up full of energy and feeling ready for a 4 mile run! Of course, every morning I also pull the covers back up and lie there quietly until that feeling goes away. Works for me.
Hello there Per C,
I hope you are well?

So lovely.
I saved it…:))
Thank you, George.
All lovely pics, look like places I’d visit if I could
Hey there my friend, George.
I am sorry for missing all these most beautiful posts on this thread.
The recent Disqus glitches have made me miss a lot of comments that I should have responded before.
I hope you are well?
Mornings. I teach as well, so sometimes I also have an afternoon class. When I go camping or on vacation, I still make sure to get some in. If the weather is bad and I can’t get out, I work out at home. I’ve done it at the beach and even when we went on a cruise. I don’t miss days …lol.
Good morning or does it mean morning work out…:))
Physical education teacher? This sounds great. What would you mostly teach your students?
What kind of work out would you usually do at home?
Oh, I guess that was dual. Good Morning and I do my exercise in the mornings ..lol.
No, my teachings are also fitness. I do a wide variety of classes but all of which are group exercises. I teach Pilates, barre, spin, POP Pilates, yoga, CXWorks, Bodyflow, Stretching, X21. I created my own Pilates Fusion Program. Basically anything that I can become certified in, I go for it ..lol. I was a personal trainer long ago but got certified in group fitness cuz I felt there was more to explore with that.
At home, just stretches, Pilates, spin and light weights.
Great right: one sentence two goals….=D
You sound like a pro to me, you do almost all kind of fitness. How wonderful.
You must have a perfect shape.
I used to do Pilates before but right now I just do regular gym and yoga. No weights for me…=D
Yeah, weights aren’t always needed anyway.
Nah, far from perfect. It’s why I stay so fanatical. Cuz I have to ..lol.
And I don’t like my hand to get rough, that’s why no weights…=D
I guess, we are women worry about gaining weights, that’s why we put exercise as the important part of our routine.
Yeah, especially as we age. I grew up into it cuz my Mom taught. Kept at it for a long time, then veered off. Been back into it heavily for quite awhile now. Plus I’m 40, so I’m trying to stay ahead of the curve ..lol.
In the evenings..always.
Saturday-off day
Then Sunday…in the afternoon🌿☕
[because mean old mister gravity and his good buddy ” mister time”
never take a day off😉]
*In the summer months, I like to skip the treadmill, and just go
for a long swim.
Good morning, Ribbey,
I see now why I don’t see you much here on Saturday and Sunday, it’s your work our day. Awesome.
Sure, swimming and get ourselves wet in a hot day.
I do swim too but not that often, probably once a month.
Greetings Murn!
One of the things I like about swimming is the weightlessness.
And just the average breaststroke a few times up and down
the pool works every single muscle you have while having a little
relaxing fun time.
Hope your Saturday is wonderful…🐳☕
https://media0.giphy.com/media/13lAyGlEIJwX16/giphy-downsized-medium.gif
[just kidding, I can’t do that😄] LoL
Laughing……=DD
How great she is, so much flexible.
That’s true about swimming: weightlessness. this is why I like it too.
You too, have an enjoyable weekend…:))
I can do that !!!
*lies*
Do you work out in morning or evening?
Unfortunately, NO.
I need to try to get into an exercise habit.
One problem with these studies and the article is that they don’t seem to look at whether being able to exercise more, for longer, in the evening actually translates into greater physical fitness. For all we know, it could be just that evening exercise has less effect on us overall, so that exercising that bit extra in the evening is no better than putting in the same effort to do less exercise in the morning.
About the only thing that they do say benefits unequivocally in the evening is our performance, so that we’ll do that bit better competing in the evening – but then so will all the other competitors, so the only advantage is to improve our times, or number of reps, etc. I suppose someone could give themself an edge in a morning competition by adjusting their circadian cycleto see morning as early evening (e.g. by getting into a sleep pattern where they go to sleep in the early afternoon) .
HI Andrew,
I find you always have insightful posts..
Thanks Tim.
I get enough exercise just pushing my luck. 😜
LOL
You are funny..=D
I do my best. 😎
I know you do, how cool that is =D
I work out in the morning usually trying for every other day.
I climb. That is what I do.
Nearby mountain gives me either a 2000 or 4000 foot option. I usually only get the 4000 3 or 4 times in a summer.
The mountain gives me solitude. On a weekday I can be there for hours and not see anyone.
I try to get out the door at first light.
If I feel like seeing what the hard bodies or dog walkers are up to I go to the “loop” which is on the side of the mountain. I don’t really do the loop though. The top leg of it has a 400 foot rise to it. I can get to 2000 if I do it 5 times.
I don’t much go to the gym anymore. Maybe this winter I will go there if it is unusually cold out.
What a great habit you do out there and it does sound familiar to me as what a friend here has been doing so far: climbing the hill in the morning before sunrise…:))
Anyway, the research suggest to do morning exercise before eating as it helps in terms of ensuring or maximizing some of the positives effects of exercise on metabolism. Sounds good.
I can’t really do it before eating. I have oatmeal, raisins, yogurt, apple and a banana.
Kind of like 800 calories. I burn all of that. Can’t do that on a sedentary day though.
Usually at night since I work in the evenings. I mostly just run on the treadmill though. It’s mostly just an attempt for me to lose beer weight.
Great, it’s good to help relieve stress from work.
I do it after work and do mostly treadmill at the gym too.
I like the morning for all sorts of activities.
Hey Tim, good to see ya bud.
Thank you! I’ve been crazy busy lately. Figured I better check in with my friend Murn and the gang..
Good to see you too!
Thank you for making the time to come here for us.
We are doing well and I hope you are doing the same and have the time to rest on your busy days.
I believe you do as how an early riser you are…*Smile
Hi Tim…it’s good to see you.
Hello, my friend!
I’ve missed you.
Morning, my friend.
I don’t see you here much lately and I’ve missed you too.
Have a lovely weekend.
Thank you, Murn.. You too.
ive spent 1000s and 1000s of HOURS reading about health thruout the years i often voluntarily share health tips with folks i felt it was a big honor being made a mod of a health channel on disqus and an administrator of 2 health forums i specialize with insomnia and psychological health advice but from the manymany hours ive read about health so many health disorders & diseases can be lessened prevented or CURED with just exercise ! it feels like a miracle how walking 20 minutes made me have ZERO anxiety depression and alprazolam(xanax)withdrawals after those walks ! that great feeling lasted ALL DAY too ! my head fels as good as it does before MS , xanax alcoholism and seizures caused by alcoholism ever existed all day long after those walks !
when you exercise especially walking 20+ minutes it makes your brain produce & release chemicals that makes stress depression and anxiety VANISH for HOURS or ALL DAY ! so please go for a walk if you feel down or had a stressfull day !
I work out anytime a large angry crowd, mean dog, or blue and red lights are chasing me, day or night.
How have the things with your gym been going so far? =D
I’ve been super busy the last couple days and am sorry I haven’t been online much. Things should slow down a little late this afternoon. 🙂
My biggest workout is yet to come…when I swim over there to see you. 😀
Hey,
That’s good, means you are recovered.
Come and swim over seven seas to see me…..make yourself a dolphin.=D
Now that I’m feeling somewhat normal, I think it can be done. =D
=D
Sorry, I just saw this.
Morning is preferred. Starts the day right with accelerated calorie burning. Wakes me up even more. All things I don’t need at the end of the day…when I’m already tired and eventually need to sleep.
Working out for me is like added caffeine.
I wear a Fitbit. I try to get 10k+ steps/day. Over 5.5 miles/day. 250 steps for a 9-5 hour period. And 2650 burned calories/day.
My Fitbit lights up on each achievement. It’s changed my life.
Sounds great like usual.
For me too, working out is part of my routine.
Feel something is missing or I feel my body isn’t complete when I don’t work out for a week.
It’s been great here by doing it 3-4 times a week.
Neither.
Neither, sounds to be too busy with other stuffs to do..:)
You are our trusted user, I thought I have made everyone on the tagging list trusted users, something weird must have happened to changed it. Sorry.
Welp, I work out at home usually so I can pick whenever I want. Usually it’s at night after work. I simply don’t have time in the morning or during the day when I’m working.
Otherwise it’s hiking on the weekends or maybe a pick-up hockey game during the week.
I’ve worked out all my life and tried it all, but I’ve found that THE best workout, at least for me, is a game of hockey. It’s great anaerobic exercise. Quick intense bursts of power, speed, agility….and of course some lifting is always a good thing…..
I try to get a work-out in 5 times a week if I can.
How wonderful to find what the best for you.
5 times a week is great, we mostly do the same here too.
3 times a week for burning, twice a week shaping or stretching which I do yoga for this.
That’s awesome to hear. Our bodies are meant to move, to be worked. Not to sit still. It’s a use it or lose it thing….a lot don’t get that. Best of luck with your health Murn! Make it a great day
Yes, that’s very true, get our bodies moved and worked and get healthy.
Thank you and have wonderful Friday out there. 🙂
im currently disabled with multiple sclerosis which makes it difficult to walk ( balance issues i walk similar to someone who is intoxicated from alcohol) but im still able to exercise except i use a push mower since i can walk fine holding onto handle 🙂 and i like to use it in the late evenings and WOW i feel great pushing that mower / mowing with it for 30-60 minutes
That sounds great, Katie.
Keep doing it, use the mower to move, 30-60 minutes is great.
I would only do my work out for 30-45 minutes, you do better than me.
“Do you work out in morning or evening?”
Morning, day or night.
Whenever she’s in the mood. ;<)
^^^THIS^^^ Lol. Good one Roy!
That’s different…..*Laughing.
Malam Bapak.

OMG …=D
Morning, Jae.
Hello Murn, have a splendid day. XD
I don’t work out. I find it dreadfully boring.
Back when I used to go to the gym, though, I preferred mid-morning, when all of the retirees came. They were much better conversationalists than the young hardbodies.
I found friends at the gym though…:))
Even thought I am not the type to chat with many people at the gym, but I met several people who have been friends until now. I even met my ex-husband for the first time at the gym.
Good morning, Amy…
I don’t.
Does that mean, no exercise at all? 🙂
I prefer a morning workout. I usually set out long before sunrise so that I am on the mountain summit in time to watch the glory of the sunrise.
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/e50d55f30f575d503de85c5a48957d23d381f8f13cfaed544e0f814cace0856d.jpg
Waaaaayyyyy cool!
Last Friday was one of the best. There was a moonset just before sunrise. Both were spectacular.
Simply awesome. Not enough people enjoy such things, or even realize they could….bravo to you!
They are happy with their heads stuck in their smartphones.
Very true, and very sad…..you’re doing it right!
Great choice to do it in the morning.
The research says that morning exercise also increases alertness and helps cognitive functioning.
So cool. Wow……
I believe you must have a really nice shape and fresh looking skin for doing that routine.
Not really.
I’ll move the times around.
Make it flexible with the available time.
When I feel like it but short sessions ,I’ve been pulling muscles and things recently, probably not warming up enough.
lol, work out!
i used to swimming every day, in the afternoon usually, the only thing could do pain wise but chronic bronchitis stopped that.
i do love to swim.
Why LOL…:))
It’s funny as I used to have Bronchitis chronic couple years ago and the doctor I went to said to me to do more swim, so I did. You must not believe that I’ve been cured since then.
really?
it’s not the swimming, it’s the draft in pool, in between pol and changing rooms and so on.
It could be the deep and regular breathing while swimming.
From bronchitis, I had asthma. And for the asthma, I can’t say I am cured but I haven’t had it since a long time more than 5 years now.
wonderful!
I know some folks who swim in the San Francisco Bay. It is not my cup of tea.
cold?
That and industrial waste.
really?!
Have you ever visited San Francisco?
sadly no, just know vic houses , and what’s up doc.

I like the evenings because it works with my metabolism as i am hypothyroid. Sometimes I have to go with the flow of the day.
I had hyper thyroids before they zapped them, I could eat anything and stay thin because I never stayed still. Now if I smell food I gain a lb…lol
I do it after work too.
It works better with my time and I can do it longer with no rush.
I used to do it in the morning for along time and I have to be honest, it made me feel great but it’s too short of time with getting ready to work and to prepare my breakfast, all these made me change to do it after work. I am sorry for having hypothyroid, I hope your routine exercise can help control it.
Aww thanks so much. I am super lazy to work out in the morning then I am tired the rest of the day.
Hypo is normal and i i keep on a veggie and chicken or fish diet. More greens, too. Low carb, though i need the carbs.
I had gestational diabetes and had a restricted diet then. I kept it with me after…and my weight is normal, not 95-100 pounds, lol.
With hypo it is tough to get back to pre baby weight….can’t shake the pounds even with exercise. But if I do it in the evening it works better with the metabolism. It doesn’t work for everyone…
Happy Friday!
