βIn the quiet moments of your life,
You learn to love yourself,
The more you love yourself,
The more love you can give to others.β
– Kim Bayne – β€οΈπ
What are the wise words you can share today?

To find true love within yourself, don’t conform to what others ASSUME, Love is.

Hi MYA,
I do agree with that quote. It’s what we have to do for ourselves.

Nah. I have a contempt for myself. I look in the mirror and say: you clown, get your act together. Work out! Shave! Style that hair! Be useful!
Most of all: STFU!!!
π€«
And does this self-talk work for you? That is, are you more lively and productive because of it?
I ask because I used to engage in similar self-scolding, and I think that it had a destructive effect. It did not make me neater, more productive, etc. It just made me sad, so I gave it up.
Wise decision
πΉ Amy πΉ
One more thing: I am self-contemptuous in moments to motivate, but not overall. It’s a never ending cycling. Every now and then get in front of that mirror, reprimand, achieve, and bask in some glory.
Rinse and repeat.
π
It works. Mostly because it makes me 2nd guess and confirm. And actually do those things l listed, which especially makes a difference socially.
I react the way I did with Nuns, Priests, authoritarian parents, and hard mentors. The way I did towards kids that left me out when I was learning English. Or with girls that wouldn’t date a clown who offered but character and honest. Or with employers who lorded over any lack of knowledge, skill, or mistake. See, I’ve had a lot of this.
π
I react with resolve, defiance, and 100% effort. It induced a positive stress, expectations, and pressure. Pain diminished. But once I mastered the game, I noticed I could get arrogant and soft.
So I continue to look at that mirror and bark orders from the reprimanding and exacting ghosts of my past. I need it. It helps keep me motivated, lean, and mean.
π
All in all, this technique helps. Same with my internal discourse with God. I use what I can to build a positive psyche, tailored to what works for me. And, not least…I sure hope there is a God. What a pity if it all ends.
Miss Amy, it sounds to me as if you’re referring to conscience. Our conscience is our internal policeman that makes us feel things like guilt and shame when we don’t stick to the straight and narrow.
Along with a liberal Transcendentalist named Ralph Waldo Emerson, I agree that it is far better to deal with our own internal judge and jury than it is to deal with the real thing. It’s what makes this old world as fit a place to live as it is.
Lol !! I hear you !
That’s how you love someone in the mirror to get him do those for his own good.
I haven’t ego enough to “love” myself.
Yes, you choose to love others more right now.
Be concerned of others…just don’t forget yourself along the way. *smile

“I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone’s shadow. If I fail, if I succeed- at least I’ll live as I believe. No matter what they take from me, they can’t take away my dig-ni-ty.”
Love George Benson’s original version:

It’s empathy magnified, ego diminished…blessed balance achieved. And it is no surprise that you’d understand…that’s the reason many love interactions with you. *smile

I remember walking around my mother’s new home with Benson’s Breezin’ album streaming through the in-wall speakers she had installed…good times. π

Thank you, Mr. T. Right back atcha. As Rumi said, “The beauty you see in me is a reflection of you.” π
Wonderful song…thank you so much. This one has been rattling around in my noggin’ since listening to your recent posts:

“Would you let me see beneath your beautiful? Would you let me see beneath your perfect? We ain’t perfect, we ain’t perfect, no…” Love isn’t about perfection. Thanks for the reminder(s).
Ahh…your mom. I relish hearing niblets about her. You somehow manage to convey her essence, every time.
George Benson- had the good fortune to meet him. He radiated humility and gratitude…much like you, kind sir. Namaste. π

I watched all her videos you shared.
Very acceptable and reasonable advice.
The most important is: be happy, always…:))
The simple secret to lasting love…begins within the self.

Then said Almitra, “Speak to us of Love.”
And he raised his head and looked upon the people, and there fell a stillness upon them. And with a great voice he said: When love beckons to you, follow him, Though his ways are hard and steep. And when his wings enfold you yield to him, Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you. And when he speaks to you believe in him, Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.
For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning. Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun, So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth. Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself. He threshes you to make you naked. He sifts you to free you from your husks. He grinds you to whiteness. He kneads you until you are pliant; And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for God’s sacred feast.
All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life’s heart.
But if in your fear you would seek only love’s peace and love’s pleasure, Then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love’s threshing-floor, Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.
Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself. Love possesses not nor would it be possessed; For love is sufficient unto love.
When you love you should not say, “God is in my heart,” but rather, “I am in the heart of God.” And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.
Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself. But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires: To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night. To know the pain of too much tenderness. To be wounded by your own understanding of love; And to bleed willingly and joyfully. To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving; To rest at the noon hour and meditate love’s ecstasy; To return home at eventide with gratitude; And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.
Kahlil Gibran – The Prophet.
Most excellent and wise words…thank you, Palapie.
You are most welcome
