Losing a pet can be very devastating.
A good friend was on face time yesterday morning, crying as she showed me her dying dog from getting badly injured by neighbor Rottweiler’s attacks. I felt her deep sorrow in her voice and tears, I was almost crying myself. Not much words to say except going there and be next to her.
Now the dog Betty had died.
This good friend of mine reminisced how she found Betty as she had told me about it before that she found Betty tied to a rope in a hole 5 years ago. She was half blind and deaf and sick and thin. She gave Betty 5 fabulous years of love and comfort.
This was her way to cope her sorrow by talking about her loss.
What about you, how do you cope sorrow when you lose your pet?

I think losing a pet is one of the hardest things to deal with. Years ago, my beloved cat was reaching old age at 22 1/ years-old. His body started shutting down and started the dying process. I consulted with my vet and even though she doesn’t make house calls she asked if she could come over to say goodbye to my cat. She loved him too and he was a very special cat. I am still pained by his absence. He died in my arms in the garden and he had a peaceful exit from this earth. I sill miss him and have dreams about him. I have two cats now and nothing with ever take the place of my special cat Ben.
Died at 221/2 years was wonderful.
And you were very lucky to have him died in your arms.
I hope the same with my cat, to hold him in my arms later when he is old and die.
I had a cat who suffered from kidney failure. She hid herself away under the kitchen sink in suffering. The vet advised putting her to sleep, which we did. I felt great relief once she was relieved of her suffering.
That’s very sad, Sophia.
I don’t think I’ll be ready if that happens to my cat.
I had lost a few cats prior to that starting at a rather young age.
I can feel the grief from losing them.
I lost my white and long hair Persian cat in a young age before too. He never went out of the house that time and once he did it he was found dead. Very sad that time.
i have no experience on this part, never been so badly attached to a dog
When my kitty died, I was depressed for 40 days. https://media0.giphy.com/media/MCfhrrNN1goH6/giphy-downsized-medium.gif
She would accompany me everywhere every room, was my alarm ⏰ each 4 am. I was devastated when she died. I’m still not planning to have new kitty. I don’t believe that any 😿can replace another. Each one is special and unique.
When I see her pic or hear her voice, I start to weep like a little baby and try to avoid them.
Amazing how pets replaced human relationship.
Is our culture in crisis???
Same with me. Angel passed away in home (18 yrs old). The day B4 her “going to heaven” appt, she made a memory all thru my apt. I wouldn’t take her to buriel for 2 days. Wrapped her in a nice towel and layed her in the kennel. Within the last 2 weeks it’s hit me hard. I need my best friend.
https://media2.giphy.com/media/PibhPmQYXZ7HO/giphy.gif
If you leave pet/dead body at your place, they stink. I put her in a box, my parish priest helped me bury her in a pretty foresty place. We prayed for her soul to rest in peace. St. Francis of Assisi pray for our furry friends!
No , I knew I had 24 hrs. She didn’t get to the decomposition stage. Temperature was very cool , dry .
Yes, I can feel what you felt.
I was grieving too when my cat gone missing for 10 days. God must have led him back home that time and I didn’t stop thanking for having him back.
But now he got very warm body, eat much less and doesn’t play like usual. I brought him to his vet yesterday, he got injection and some medication….:(
I like that gifs. I have it on my gifs folder too. Very adorable.

It’s very rare here…:))

People who have never had a pet don’t realize that after a while they become your kids if you don’t have kids.
That’s very true and that’s the feeling I have for my cat too.
He has became my son.

I’ve also had cats. I like cats. Cats are cool. Like having a miniature tiger.
I also have one cat.
He’s been a great boy for his entire life to his age of 10 now.
That term of ‘miniature tiger’ makes me laugh….it’s true
Thank you…:))
Taco Bell 💞
I see you have a cat. I don’t have a problem with cats either. I’ve had a few cats through the years. A cat is pretty much like a miniature tiger. You just have to remember to follow their rules for holding and petting them. Learn to recognize the signs when they’ve had enough or you’ll pay for it with claws and teeth. My grandpa used to have a couple of dozen of them to keep the rats out of his produce sheds. When he would get back in the evening from his truck route selling fruits and vegetables everyone of those cats would follow him everywhere he went.
Rats– eeck !! Hard to have a food business & worry about those pests. 😺Rat Patrol !
Stories and pictures will definitely help cope with the lose of your Pet and or loved ones.
There is no wrong way to cope, of course unless you’re doing something criminal and or injuring yourself.
Personally for me, the best cope is time. The closer the incident, the stronger the feelings…as time goes by, you began to calm down and recover mentally and physically… (most of us at least).
My Poodle April O’Neal Long passed away in 2007…I had her for 15 plus years…she literally grew up with me.
I agree with you. Stories and pictures help us process the loss. Unconditional love/companionship is no small thing- we need to honor it. As you said, April O’Neal grew up with you; saw you through many ups and downs. Ignoring grief doesn’t make the pain go away, it just delays it.
RIP April O’Neal. Sounds like she had a good life with you. 🙂
Even tho everyone has their own way, I 100% agree with that and thank you, she was an incredible Doggy but my guardian Poodle can now rest in peace.😊
I’m not super religious but for April…

Yes!!! 🙂
If you don’t mind my asking, what size/color was April O’Neal? I understand if you’d rather not answer. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. 🙂
😆 It’s okay, I don’t mind the question at all. I don’t have her pictures in hand but this is a perfect example of how she looked. The only difference was that her eyes was a brighter shade. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/d25cb8d72491d84cbb91db487a4709ce19668b5905d629b0d9250045cefe7138.jpg

My current Dog is a Chihuahua named Maximilian.

Thank you! Wow…I’ve never seen that coloration- didn’t even know it was possible. Shows how much I know. Ha. So cute. 🙂
Maximilian- one of my fav names. Get outta town. Someone is spoiled 🙂 …I love his shirt and his toy. That look on his face…as if he thinks a treat is coming his way. Or maybe just, “Good boy”.
Thanks for taking the time. That put a smile on my mug. 🙂
Yeah, there are a few Poodle breeds that can come in black & white. It’s okay if you didn’t know “You’re still learning” lol.
And haha, you are actually right, I was getting ready to give him one of his favourite treats.

I promise I’m not advertising.😅
HaHa!!! See? I’m not (quite) as dumb as I look. You can see it in that little cutie’s eyes…He knows. He’s muggin’ for the camera. Poser! Haha.
Sorry for the delay…got off line right smack after I last posted to ya, and haven’t been back until just now. But for the record, I was telling some friends about April O’Neal and Maximilian earlier today. I’m kinda obsessed with his little legs and that cute face. And hey- I’m not the only one who thought poodles were all solid colors! Haha…”birds of a feather flock together”.
See? You’re spreading knowledge far and wide, with your stories and pictures. Oh- and joy…never underestimate the power of joy. 🙂
Maximilian is so cool. He has so beautiful eyes.
I imagine he is as little as your fist so you can get him into your pocket.
And you dress him up. I love watching it.
Thanks for sharing, Arnell…:))
Thanks! And unfortunately they couldn’t fit in my pocket. Both of them are on the bigger and taller side and not as small as usual breeds all.😅
But I actually kind of like that.
Looks small in picture…. but still look very cute and beautiful…:))
Oh and you enjoy your weekend as well, be safe.
I thought picture and stories would remind us even more about them and make us sad.
But time would always be the best to heal, we just need to give time a time.
True, time is my preferred way to heal. Then once I’ve heal, a few pictures and stories won’t be so bad because the wound is no longer fresh. However for those who wounds would open back up if they see pictures and or tell stories, I suggest them to not do so until they are able to.
I respect everyone’s way because we all recover differently.
Yes, that what I would always do too. Go through as time goes by, after we feel we are healed then start looking at pictures. Agreed…:)
Absolutely right. It’s okay.

A doxxing scare and need to reappear means this is me now. Hi, Lily!
Loving this cooler weather ! Fell asleep watching Northwestern ballgame . Dozing day !
Keeping busy and regrouping a bit. How’s everything with you ?
I’m okay, I guess. I am digging the fall weather as well, spare all the rain.
I screwed up my schedule again and am on vampire time. I hope to catch the Bears beating the Raiders tomorrow?
I hope all is well with you. 🙂
I’m so disappointed in our Bears! How could they lose to the Raiders?!?
Get another dog.
If you don;t want another dog you could consider adopting a child through one of the charities as make a better life for a child for less than what it costs to have a cup of coffee a day, and it would cost less than dog food.
Great advice.
Thank you…:)
We have a lovely family OS we sponsor and have been since 2003. Cool thing is, our actual daughter was born on the same day her sponsor sister was too. : They are both 19 now but we still sponsor the family so yes it IS a good idea. Who we went through is an Aussie place known as PLAN. 🙂

“How do you cope with sorrow from losing your dog?”
Go out soon after to an animal shelter and rescue a new born puppy.
Very true, adopting is the best way than buying it from the pet shop.
And having a little cute puppy will surely make us a bit distracted from mourning.
Yes. There is nothing like a cute puppy to bring back the smiles to an aching heart. ;<)
Yes, true.
I told her about adopting a new dog. But she’d need time to get over the pain thought she will definitely take one later on.
Selamat malam, Bapak.
Mimpi manis…:))
Mimpi manis Ibu!
We have a cat. The wife had a dog many years ago.
Hi VJ,
Both are lovely animals and can be a great companions.
What kind of cat do you have?
We call him a Fluffmeister cat – it is called a Himalayan by others.
Here he is:
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/15a4ef1f1c89719e313734b2084e5aa705805de76dc7497c3cf6554bba50d5bb.jpg
That is a very special cat and nice picture,
Unique color and the fur looks soft.
And a rare name too. He must make you both happy…:))
I would want one. Not sure we can find that breed here, but will try to find out.
So handsome. Haha- I’m gonna steal that, “Fluffmeister cat”.
Very handsome cat.
I like his color so much.
Recommended.
The only dog I had that died was little “Fonzie” from my childhood and I cried buckets. It was fortunate he died from old age and he’d had a good life.
I am so sorry your friends dog died the way she did.
It’s wonderful though you were there for your friend in their time of need. Kudos Murn. 🙂
I thought so too, it’s always fortunate to have pet died from age.
What age was he when he died? here people sometime have dogs up to 18-21 years old.
I was happy to be available for her and had the chance to go there straight away when she needed someone to be around her. Thank you.
Fonzie was 19 and got him when he was a puppy so he was the family furry bud for a long time. He died in 2001. I have not had a dog since, until now and MY family ( as in Ed and Dani and Brit and I) have Honeycomb Happenstance. 🙂 We got him as a little bubba too, and have had him since the end of May. 🙂
Recently ( as in, just March this year) Our cockatiel we had had for 16 years died too. That was hard as she had been part of our lives since 2003 so Dani who is now 19, remembers all of little Tangee’s quirks and just cool moments. She died of a heart attack birds get when startled. We had horrific storms overnight and that morning, she was chirping her “good morning, good morning” and an hour later….nothing. Some people may think it’s strange but she had a proper burial and there is now a tangerine coloured kangaroo paw growing in our yard in her honour. What is really sort of cool, is one of our cats Shadow lays next to the plant now to have her daily nap. 🙂 For a cat and bird, they were very close, almost “snurgly”. 🙂
Your friend is fortunate to have you. Also, props to your friend as well for taking in a furry bub with all the issues she had. That’s love…xxx 🙂
Thank you as always for recommending.
You’ve been very supportive to us, to this site.
We really do appreciate it.
It’s ok. I appreciate its neutrality.
Please don’t hesitate to remind us when you see something goes side ways without us realizing it…:)
I reckon it’s pretty clear I speak my mind. lol
You’re good though, Murn. 😉
I am flattered, but thank you..:))
I thought, I’d like to offer you modding here.
Gathering the good people with the rational words we know on this site.
What would you think about it?
Now it’s my turn to be flattered. At this point in time though, I have to say thank you but no thank you.
There are health issues with my hubby’s dad and as it’s fresh information ( as of 2 days ago only), I have to be on standby to help Ed at this point in time. I just don’t want to make a commitment of that ilk to your channel to just say in a couple of days time, I cannot be around.
I hope you understand. 🙂
I am sorry to hear about Ed’s dad, I hope you both will find the best treatment for him and to have him recovered. I recall you too had an issue with your legs. I hope it gets better now?
That is a very responsible answer and I respect that. The seat is available for you, so anytime you would want it, it’s yours, and you will only need to let me know and I’ll add you on the board. Thank your for participating on this thread.
Have an easy early evening out there. I’ll talk to you soon.
Have to go now and come back later….:))
Sad… 💐
When my beloved sheep dog the little black collie, Duffy died in 2006, I was crying at his grave when little four-month old Billy found me and offered me comfort. It melted my heart.
I am sorry for the lost on Duffy.
I wonder if Billy is still with you now?
As far as I know, the only thing that really helps a person accept and adequately deal with the death of a pet is another animal, whether that be a second pet, a new pet or probably best of all, two puppies. It’s funny, isn’t it, when I lost my 13-year old Retriever, Bill to cancer, my neighbor told me that he had never cried so hard when his dog died that it seemed to hurt him more than the death of his mother. We still have Billy’s little brother who looks like he will surely make it to fourteen and perhaps sixteen.
