Some of the crazy stuff I did. When I was working as a counsellor for at risk youth, I put myself in between violent kids more than a couple of times, to stop them from hurting each other. And when my little doggie was threatened by big dogs, and once by a cougar, I used pepper spray to protect him… and my bare hands on a couple of occasions.
Courage doesnt mean, you console yourself on the face of injustice.
Courage means, you stand up to injustice even after knowing the consequences.

I have a different take on courage
How so?
To me, the courage comes in making the decision to take the action. Sometimes it take huge courage to do the most dreadful things that you already have to be willing to do it beforehand, because there isn’t always time to think or people to ask for advice
Yes, that has been my experience..
“conscience doth make cowards of us all” – Shakespeare.
I am fan for Shakespeare…
I have this in file too.

Theodore Roosevelt.
We can practice this in our lives. Valuable lesson.

This was sent to me by a friend on another site where we discuss our love of baseball.
It is very motivating. If the baseball players read that, they’d win..:)

So true…
Good morning, My Friend.
Wow… those are very inspiring…. I save them.
Thank you….thank you….thank you…:))
Good evening, my friend!
I think I mentioned to you before that I keep a list of inspirational quotes. This is a great topic!
Always nice to see you, Murn.
Yes, you did mention about having Rumi’s quote collection.
I know now that you keep the list of the inspirational quotes, not just Rumi’s. That is great so you can share them when there is a topic for them.
Always nice to see you too.
Happy weekend…:))
Yes, I have saved quotes to fit almost any situation. It’s kind of a hobby for me. I hope you have a great weekend too! Go out and have some fun!
I agree…there are so many inspirational quotes by inspirational great people that we can learn from and that we can even practice in our lives.
Yes, I have saved quotes to fit almost any situation. It’s kind of a hobby for me. I hope you have a great weekend too! Go out and have some fun!
Please share us as many as you can as I would save them too …:-)
I posted most of my quotes saved on the topic of courage. I have others, but they have already been posted by others.. Apparently many others have a great appreciation for this topic. Very well done..
Thank you.
I thought it was just a simple topic for Friday.
I was surprised it gets so many appreciations. Thank you again.

i was tempted to get onto roof earlier today to use my gas leaf blower to clean off small twigs on it , i can easily get onto roof from bedroom window without needing a ladder *sigh* i used to go up there around once a month to clean roof but since 6/2018 i have trouble walking so it may NOT be safe for me to be on roof since i have balance problems walking and i DONT want to be having that problem when on the roof i dont want to lose my balance stumble fall on roof and roll off roof ! well its not that dirty so i better just skip this even tho i feel like i have the courage to do this i dont want to get hurt or die doing this !
Tell that lazy brother to get off his duff and do it. You have no business endangering yourself for that task. Mowing is ok , you’re at ground level & rest breaks.
Recommended.
I won’t elaborate but… frankly, I couple resilience with courage and that has a lot to do with things that have happened in in my life.
Ironically, I could not have either resilience or courage without seeing the positives that COULD ( or would and did for me) and all the while maintain a sense of humour.
Over 23 years ago I left an abusive husband. I left with nothing, but my bible, my purse, and a bag of clothes. It takes courage to step out an abusive relationship. I only wish more women would be willing to do the same in similar situations.
Kudos to you Lisa. 🙂

Amen ! I think every young girl needs to watch the Burning Bed (Farrah Fawcett was remarkable ! The victim) to identify & avoid unruly cocky persona’s still living off their parents after high school (if not going to college or disabled). These days there’s more support and stiffer punishment. But it’s a terrifying ordeal & Aftershock plus the agonizing fear if they show up or released from jail.
Afterwards, where did u go ? did u have kids ? Did he get arrested & serve time ? Did u stash $ for your getaway ?
Being aware of the dangers is always wise. A courageous person understands both the pros and cons. I love seeing individuals win against adversity and also those who try to.

Devotion to the courage ethic is one of the things this country lost in the Civil War. Prior to the Civil War, in the more liberal north, the “Protestant work ethic” prevailed, which essentially meant people up there were judged by the amount of money they made. Thus the old bumper sticker, HE WHO DIES WITH THE MOST TOYS WINS. This is still the case.
In the South, people were judged by how well they adhered to virtues like honor, loyalty to God, nation, and family and, yes, courage. In this respect, Southerners were like the Greeks who prided themselves on how well they lived up to their four cardinal virtues of wisdom, courage, morality, and moderation. Say what you will about the advisability of code duello, but it took a great deal of courage.
What has replaced these virtues, beyond money, is the therapeutic state that celebrates weakness and dysfunction. I’d say we’re long overdue for a return to celebrating being strong, and being able to face up to the worst life may bring us, rather than wailing and gnashing our teeth over misfortune.
Wonderful story.
Then courage become the source to be able to face up to the worst life may bring us.
Yep, courage is one of the reasons I like the Stoics. It was Marcus Aurelius who said that “death smiles at us all, but all a man can do is smile back”. To me, this is courage, and explains why we’re happier when we cultivate this virtue.
“….smile back at death…”Very brave words.

Quite a politically divisive view of history. No need to disparage either North or South on MNC. Please keep this in mind.
Nope. As long as I’m writing, I’m going to write what I think is best, not what you think is best. If that’s unacceptable, then I’ve made my last post here.
Nobody is asking you to leave. I have also resigned my position on the mod team here.
So post whatever it takes to get over the Surrender at the Appomattox Court House. SMH.
I respect your views. There is no censoring for personal’s views that contains no violations against site rules. You are fine.
Murn, I also want to apologize for overreacting. For those who hate the South, my points are also illustrated in the movie “Patton”.
One of the themes of this movie was that Patton was not a man of the 20C and its ways. More particularly, Patton saw courage in one of the highest forms of human excellence, and one rapidly disappearing into a maze of bureaucracy and technology, with the human element disregarded.
Things have only gotten worse. Now, with nuclear triggers, it would be possible for a ninety-pound girl afraid of her own shadow to blow up the entire world. As Patton would ask, where are the glory and excellence?
Let me hasten to add that the reason I didn’t use this example before is that it’s a bit too martial for my tastes. There is excellence in exhibiting bravery in our day-to-day lives as well.
Thank you and still it leads to the point about courage.
Patton looks like a good biography movie. And he tells that you love a winner.
Please no need to apologise.
Good morning….:))
Murn, a good morning to you as well.
I recall reading an interview with Francis Ford Coppola, creator of Patton, some years back. This film came out in the early seventies when, then as now, the country was divided into two irreconcilable camps: Traditional Americans versus the counterculture.
Coppola solved this problem brilliantly by portraying Patton as both the American hero who stopped evil in the world; and the countercultural, anti-establishment hero who spent his time bucking an evil system. This film was a big hit with both groups.
Thank you,
Yes, it’s from 1970.
It must be good as it is recommended for collectors of war movie.
I think I’ll have this on my watch list. I like Biography movies. There are always lessons to learn from his wartime activities and his accomplishments, etc.
Yes, it’s said it was a big hit although it was in the middle of Vietnam war.

I have a lot to say about courage but we don’t speak about politics here.
They call it the land of the free and the home of the brave, but when I look around all I see is incarceration and cowardice.
Then do something about it: enlist in the USA military.
🙃
I don’t know who would suffer more: them or me.
The problems are within our Country, not beyond.😊
@arnelllong:disqus
We have a great country, in spite of our issues. We certainly have lots of people who act with great courage and magnanimity. Across a range of professions.
But there are more appropriate forums to discuss this. But some take cheap shots to push their politics here, taking advantage of a neutral theme.
I am not sure what you’re alluding there IM. Please explain?
She should do something that actually takes real courage. As opposed to constantly insulting and belittling in posting her childish partisan and identity politics. Just look at her posting history here…consistently trying to make it about exactly that.
Of course I’m having fun with such silliness.

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
I just knew that quote and they are so true.
Very inspiring. I save it too. Awesome.
Good stuff. I read the original Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra in Spanish. Such an interesting story.
Just sitting here and these words of courage came to me.
Thoughts on Courage
How my heart easily shattered as a frosted lake
When heavy treads of oblivion marched with force,
Oh, my beauteous darling you must never forsake
Me, for I cannot survive such tormented remorse.
Yet take courage and fly hopefully on soft wing
Face dangers by day and nightmares by night,
Listen to a paean of your guardian angel who sing
The battle hymn of valour in our ever-daily fight.
Now the meek rain has washed away my fears,
Slowly grey billowing clouds melt into colour blue
Like gargantuan incubi soaked in peeling tears
Until you return, I’ll save a thousand words for you.

Thanks for your kindness. I’ll just post as and when. Sometimes I might be away for short times (illness). I have MS and get good and bad days.
Thanks for your kindness.
Late afternoon and time for a tea break
I am very sorry to know about your MS. I did a quick search and know what it is. I hope you will get cured soon.
I love tea break, I usually have green tea about 2-3 hours after lunch, it help us to keep me energised and stay up especially at work hours.
How very kind. Unfortunately MS no cure. Mine is progressing quickly. Eyesight very poor etc. But I have love around me. Take care and thanks again for kindness at your site

Could adopt them all.
Bye
My welcome mat is out ; they’re adorable !!! I miss my baby !!
To have courage is to have heart, merely what the word means. Now, the heart can become too hard or too soft, but in this context I think of the essence of heart, of courage, as compassion and love; love of others, of self, of life itself. Those who get heralded for courage usually have acted in the interest of others to their own detriment, and often courage is to act on one’s own behalf. But to be courageous is to act. For that brief instant of time that is given for our heart to beat, to act.
Excellent thoughts
thanks
I would agree with all that.
Courage to me also means to do something even when we have to sacrifice for others.

is there a difference between ‘bravery’ and ‘courage’….?
here’s a favorite of mine, Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die.
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
All the world wonder’d.
Honor the charge they made!
Honor the Light Brigade,
Noble six hundred!….https://youtu.be/aKchwAWMpDA?list=RDaKchwAWMpDA&t=3
Hi Mark..
good morning…Purple…
Are you a poet or Poetess ?
neither….lol….there are others here who are….I have scattered knowledge….
Great.. just like me ;-D
Wow… that music. Waking us up to be brave.
I found this and it’s good to know.
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/c49bf6da063ac8527f2640e3abd38c05f52e89bef807af22b8647a4b284c3398.jpg
that song was created for the Light Brigade….long after it was passed into memory….as was the poem, closer to that time….
they are somewhat interchangeable…..or have been used that way….
Yes, they are.
Other source says this:
“Bravery is the ability to confront pain, danger, or attempts of intimidation without any feeling of fear. … Courage, on the other hand, is the ability to undertake an overwhelming difficulty or pain despite the eminent and unavoidable presence of fear…”
It may be obvious that I love poetry. It is the Elizabethan lyrical poets that are my favourite, in particular Andrew Marvell and the one I am going to quote, John Donne. (pronounced Dun). It does not specifically mention courage yet to me it is implied, it suggests this is the way we must face life, which is a form of courage, that of facing it, and death.
‘No Man is an Island’
No man is an island entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
well as any manner of thy friends or of thine
own were; any man’s death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.
It’s obvious that you know and love great poetry.
I believe you must make your own too.
That poetry reminds me of the Cast Away movie.
A true story about a survival. Courage made him survived.
Yes, I write poetry. English Literature was my degree at university, and my thesis for my PhD. This is a great site, Murn
Wow.. that’s great.
I am an English Literature graduate too but I didn’t continue so I only got Bachelor Degree. I used to write poetry long time ago and I got an offer to teach before but I chose to work for shipping instead.

Thanks, Cys.
I smile when I see Cys
My actual name is Cysgod and it means in Welsh Shadow. As I was a foundling have no idea why I was called such an odd name. Maybe because I am of mixed heritage lol
Oddly it is pronounced Kus-god-t
Looks like a Greek or Celtic name to me…is it true?
Sorry, I tend to call a name with one syllable…:)
So “Kus-god-t” I know now.
no, no, please don’t. I was just saying. Everybody calls me Cys. Except a good friend who says, “kiddo” But that’s another story lol
No Cysgod is pure Celtic Welsh
Great, then I’ll continue with Cys..:)
I love many Celtic musics. I have the playlist for it.

The swing is faster and higher
He who has courage despises the future. Because the future is meaningless and unimportant to the person who can bravely face and make the most of the present. The present moment is,all you need. We must live in the present and face it with courage.
Translated from the Latin of a quote by the stoic philosopher and Roman Emperor, Marcus Aurelius
Very true, we should not focus on tomorrow because it’s still a mystery, the present is the reality. Nice quote, Cys.

Courage is standing for what you know is Right and Proper even if the world thinks otherwise. It takes nothing to speak up for things everyone agrees with. It takes bravery to stand up against the tide of popular opinion.

Very motivating and manly.
Seems like it’s your own quote.

― Nelson Mandela
Yep, it was my quote seven minutes ago, but it has always been my philosophy.
You are talented.

Great philosophy and it is true that a fool always worries, they are not prepared and when something happens they don’t know what to do.

A very inspirational lady. I’ve been fan for her.
Now still use her Channel No. 5. very long lasting.
I like to watch many of their ads…:))
I love chanel no 5. Always have the lotion at work in my desk. this is the book-you can look inside at amazon

Awesome, I saved it.
Thank for sharing, Infa. I’ll definitely check it out later.
I believe Chanel no 5 is every women’s collection
i love it. I also have a bottle of Miss Dior. They made a Miss Dior ‘Cherie’ which was even better imo and i got compliments every time i wore it. they have stopped making it grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! I have found some at the duty free and online but it is 6 or 7 yrs old? I’d worry about the quality if it hasn’t been stored properly. In meantime i wear Miss Dior and Chanel. If this is my biggest worry in life I am truly blessed. 😇🌹😁
I haven’t tried the Cherie, I still have Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet. I should try Cherie. I still love Rosa Excelsa by Dolce & Gabbana and now I try Jo Malone, it’s the first time I buy it and do love it. I like Dior too but my number 1 favourite is still Chanel. Duty free should be fine but I still don’t trust buying online worry if it’s not the original.
thank you . I will check out Rosa Excelsa and perhaps will drop by the duty free next time i make a shopping sortie across the border.
Rosa Excelsa is one of my favourites.
Great…enjoy shopping….women stuffs, love it…:))
i don’t shop as much as i used to because i do a lot of online shopping. I do like browsing in unique little shops and vintage boutiques. I also found a lady at a craft show who makes period clothing for theatre. I got really good deals on her custom making me some things as she was just starting out. Now her business is booming….she made me two gorgeous Mary Poppins bags and a black velvet cloche hat with a flower on the side.
I have a gold bag similar to the one in the pic. The pic of the black bag with antique cameo and the hat is my actual bag and hat…love love love them. the bag is HUGE!

I love that hat, it looks classy and very feminine.
Yes, the bag looks big even in the picture and that is a beautiful bag although I would mostly like the simpler ones and not many details, but seeing your black bag, I like it. And black would go to all colours.
Good taste and choices.

It’s a waste of money imo. Some people want the ‘name’ on their clothes and accessories. I never understood that – the only reason I own coach purses is because they were gifts. I do like Brahmin bags and own a few I rescued from vintage shops and I have only bought one full price and I’ve had it for 8 years so far – agood investment. I also bought 2 pairs of almost new Christian louboutin red soles shoes at agreat price. The ones with kitten heels less than 3 inches as I would break my neck in the stilettos 👠 LOL.
I’ll have to post a pic sometime. One is black patent Mary Janes and the other other low heeled black velvet loafers
I do agree, it’s waste of money and besides I don’t have that much budget for such a thing. I would rather help others if I have more.
For all these years I have only one Aigner and one Gucci bags, and some wallets. Other than these, for bags they are just inexpensive bags like Braun Buffel, Longcham, Kate Spade and more Fossil. just regular brands…:))
Brahmin has a great leather quality and they are beautiful design, look durable and simple. Lucky you to have them.
Christian Louboutin made great shoes, simple but very stylist and elegant. I don’t wear high heels often, for daily works I would prefer wedges…:) And those shoes you have sounds beautiful. i can imagine how they look as I’ve seen CL’s shoes style.
Me too…Jo Malone is my latest love. Peony and Blush Suede, and/or Wild Bluebell. My absolute favs. Can’t stop breathing, when those are near. Deep inhalations. Ahh…
I love Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet too, but it doesn’t last long at all (on me, anyway).
😀
Hi dolly !! Any more pizza deliveries !! Howz u been ?? Xo Lily!
Hi midwestern sistah from another mistah! Wow. How did you know? Do-doo-DOO-do…
Superbowl party at my place in a few hours. Preppin’ for snacks…whatchu doin’?
Making lotsa naughty yum-yums. The BEST chewy dinner rolls for mini sammies (hat tip to Philo, for the BEST recipe evah!), mac and cheese from scratch, queso dip, hummus, salads, hi-hat cupcakes and cookies…
Lily, you always gets me thinkin’ about snacks. Bet you’re a great cook. I hadn’t made hummus for awhile…then I saw you chatting about it. What’s your fav? Mine is with avocado and jalepeno. YUM!!! You also reminded me to make queso…and- of course…
If you’re a Bear, you gotta have Chicago pizzas on tap. I’ll ask everyone if they remember driving thru Galena on our road trips. Are you gonna watch the game? Where were you in ’86? Go Bears. 😀
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-U8E-NiPlw
And no, this isn’t off-topic…’cause it takes courage to be a steadfast, loyal Bears fan! Haha. Will be sporting my (new, Christmas gift, haha) jersey in a few…
Great to hear from ya, Lily! You keeping warm over there? Howz your noggin’? Healed up?
😀
I love this kind of interaction… enjoy…:))
Gary Fencik was Soo handsome !!
Not to mention smart too.
IKR??? So we agree on more than just snacks, haha!
Eye candy to boot. 😀

! My apologies !! I just got your reply & hefty ☑️ ‘s !! I actually fell asleep at 5ish B4 super bowl !! I know , all the snacks and drinks galaore ! I like Ginger ale wtih a cherry ! Queso with chorizo is numnum too !! I entertained much more years ago and luv to whip up a good variety of snacks. .. for the 86 Superbowl my sister and friends got up early , went to breakfast and then we watched & cheered on division & rush st. Bears Season fever was contagious and exhilarating ! I went to a couple games that year and next. My step dad did play golf with McMahon for a company outing. McMahon & Company ! Talk about team spirit ! Thanks for the nice update and note ! I really need to get a few hrs of sleep now. And thank you for asking about my head wound. It’s a 2.5 inch gash on my left hairline part far from forehead /face healed nicely. It didn’t throb nor had any headaches or fuzz head vision. You must’ve had a great party ! 👍🥘🥪🍢🍪
Wow, Lily- that is super cool! Watching it down on Division and Rush? Luckeeeey!!! Plus…your step dad and McMahon! So now I kinda know someone who knows someone who…haha. Very cool.
Glad to hear about your healing- YIKES! I was shivering, from all the way over here, reading about you heading out to get bandages. Brrrrrrrr!!!! That’s one perk, though…being able to hide both your pj’s and your gash, under all the layers! 😀
I luvv my parka coat (very worn) fur trimmed; lest “holds in my top portion” so I don’t have to slug on the damn bra during winter walks or bopping around the dollar store or bodega. I’m always working up a hot even in the winter months. Cashmere sweaters are best. Slim and warmy. Heavy wool is too heavy . I get cold when it’s damp rainy weather in the 30/40 degrees. I just had cheese and cracker schnack plus liver pate was ok too .
Always good to say a cheery hello to you !! 🍕🌻🐿️
Haha! “Top portion.”
High-five, yet again. Mmmmm…cashmere. “Slim and warmy.” Mmmmmmmhmmmmm. That’s my happy place. Tees are my fav. Then, hoodies. Soft and thin layers you can peel off at a moment’s notice. Yummy.
No kiddin’- “Just Say NO!” to heavy wool…UGH!!! Oppressive!
Nom Nom Nom. Cheery hello right back atcha, Lily girl!!!
😀
Oh yes , I have an oversized one I sleep in sometimes. T’s to my knees during summer months . I have a short fleece leopard patterned robe I live in year round. It’s like a security blanket …
It was liquid bandage ; a gluey serum you drop on the wound , it has healing agents so it stings a bit. But I didn’t use it once I bought it . I had bacetracian ointment and cleansed the gash with white vinegar diluted in water and tapped with cotton balls. Couple days later I lightly shampooed hair and blow dried on low. The scab was dry and no throbbing whatsoever. However , if injury ever happens to the back of the head and closer the neck area , that’s an ER cause all the spinal nerves feed to the brain and body back of neck.
Hi Lily……hahaha…
Hahaha! XO Missy Murn !! 😃🐈🐈🐇
I picked Peony & Blush Suede too and English Pear & Freesia. Wow…..you must feel pretty as I do once I spray it…:)))
I love love love these.
And we have the same Miss Dior Blooming Bouguet, Yes, it doesn’t less long on me either, I would usually spray it again after about 4 hours, especially when I’d need to go out meet people.
Today I wore La Nuit Tresor ‘a la folie’. It’s Lancôme’s interpretation of love in the form of letting go and surrendering….:)) Rich of rose, jasmine, peony, violet. Very long lasting. I loved myself more today for wearing it..:))
I should post the Parfume thread again soon…=D
You said it perfectly. That’s exactly how I feel, when I wear it. Yes, “love love love”…I’ll check out your other favs- I trust your taste. “I loved myself more today for wearing it.” 😀
Yes, I don’t mind too much that Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet doesn’t last as long…better that, than the scent entering the room before I do. Ideally, someone should just get a hint…making them want to come closer and inhale to get another hit- instead of choking and running away, haha. That’s what I aim for, anyway- no guarantees.
Yes, you should! 😀
I will…. =DD

Sure is !! I love my ysl opium too !!
So cool,
We are in the same club.
Morning, Lily…:)

Don’t look at the storm, look at Christ!
https://carlossp1.files.wordpress.com/2018/08/isaiah-45-22.jpg?w=368
Good morning, My Friend Carlos,
This is a friendly reminder that religious attribute in the form of pictures, gifs, video containing verses from Bible, Quran and Torah or preaching are allowed to be posted on religious thread only.
I leave this post for now but please note for future post.
Hi, Murn!
The theme of the post is one of the basic themes of any healthy faith doctrine or philosophy.
That is I think why the quote from the Bible is pertinent. And I don’t know anything better to share.
It would be counter-census to ignore this, and to use phrases of their own, or by authors who will never achieve the same meaning.
At least I wouldn’t have the ability to include anything better.
Anyway, if my comments bother MNC, please unsubscribe me from the channel.
Thanks!
Hi Murn, How are you ?
🙂

Happy Sunday, dear Friend.
