Travelling is not time off from your job. Travelling is time spent enhancing your career.
What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when someone say ‘travel’ – Vacation? Meeting new people? Or maybe, Instagrammable sunsets? While travelling can be exciting and exhilarating, it’s so much more than sipping margaritas on a sun-soaked beach.
It’s no news that travel is good for your physical well being, but a significant amount of scientific research suggests that exploring a new place can do wonders for your mental and emotional health as well.
Here are five evidence-backed ways travelling makes your mind happy and healthy according to Forbes:
1. It’s a great stress buster.
2. It helps you reinvent yourself.
3. It boosts happiness and satisfaction.
4. It makes you mentally resilient.
5. It enhances creativity.
* Lastly, how can you reap the benefits after returning from a trip?
* What other evidence that you feel makes your mind happier after a trip?
* Please share your thoughts.
Please recommend.
I wholeheartedly agree. However, unless we can collect enough paid leave in a not so long amount of time, most of us USAns don’t stand much of a chance. If you’re not part time, on 1099 independent contractor, being paid only for the hours you work, or for that matter unemployed then maybe there’s a chance but then you’ll need to find out how long it will take to accumulate at least 2 weeks of paid leave in the company you work for and that also assumes you don’t take any paid time off lest it take longer to accrue.

i know most of us cant afford to go on vacations often if you had a stressfull day go for a 20 minute walk a doctor ive seen all my life recommended that to me when i saw him to get citalopram & alprazolam i took his advice when i quit those meds and WOW my head feels as GOOD as it did many years ago it feels like i took a invisable magic pill since i had ZERO stress ZERO depression ZERO anxiety after that walk and wow that great feeling lasted all day too !
Hi Katie,
Those citalopram & alprazolam sound to be working really well on you which is great. It’s true, we don’t have to take vacation on our stressful day. Drive slowly around the cities or walking in the garden or on the beach, or sit down in a nice cafe having coffee or tea with nice cakes with nice musics, these have been my simple stress release so far too. I need no medication tho but that is a good information about citalopram & alprazolam. 😉
its also very important to make sure your body has adequaate vitamins and minerals lacking a vitamin or mineral can make you prone to depresion and anxiety i recommend b complex vitamin once a day that b complex is loaded with most b vitamins b vitamins are good for both a healthy nervous system and healty mntal health b complex is also a very good and safe energy booster it helped me alot when i was 18 i used to work 530 pm – 2am i had to work at a fast paced cleaning crew of a large tall building 530pm – 1130 pm after that i worked a 2nd job cleaning a bank alone i had plenty of energy to work that job
Very true and me too. I have 6 different vitamins everyday for morning and night before bed. B complex and salmon omega 3 complex are just the two of them. Both of us seem to be living in a healthy way, Katie.
Isn’t that great? 🤗😉
to some people with anxiety or social phobia getting out of the house is A MUST to break theyre fears i mean you gotta face your feears to overcome those phobias ive spent many hours like 1000s and 1000s of hours reading about health i often give health advice online i spcialize with insomnia and psychological health advice i often tell people with anxiety that they need to get out more to over come that fear a person with anxiety FIRST needs to break theyre fear since it would probably be impossible to them to be far far away from theyre home on a vacation
I think traveling and living elsewhere broadens your knowledge and perspective. It forces you to meet new people and develop social skills. It’s a good way to mature and gain experiences so that if you do go back to your community, you will be all the more helpful.
You don’t have to live abroad either. Move to a different city for a while. But yes, short of this, travel and vacation as much as you can.
Hi IM,
Happy and Prosperous New Year to you and your loved ones. 😉
And that is a nice thought.
Thanks for sharing like always.
Fer Shure ! 👍
I would also say, most importantly, you get to see the world and how they do things elsewhere. You can’t call yourself well educated unless you’ve travelled.
Agreed,
Every trip we take to different places, we would always see new and different things and those enrich our knowledge.
2 snaps and a shake ! U nailed it– straight up truth ! 👏Bravo !

Hello. I don’t like to travel too much. I do how ever have a shared horse ranch. It has a large hot tub in which I like to relax in with my friends. There is also a large fire place in the lodge. I love sitting by it at night in the Winter time. It too is very relaxing. I don’t go up there too often any more. I use to live there. There are good people there, and a good crew.
Hi Lisa,
That sounds lovely and enjoyable.
It’s good for you.
I wish you a very happy new year.
Hi Sweet Murn and all!
Happy New Year to all. Hope it will be filled with love, hope, and dreams and needs accomplished.
Great topic! You always raise smart questions and topics and I enjoy your channel so much. Additionally, you are a Lovely Lady. Glad I got tagged by you.
Hi there CC,
Happy and Prosperous New Year to you and your family too.
We are honoured to have you in our community.
Thank you so much for your supports and contributions.*Hugs
The Honor is mine as well. 🤗🥂💐
Thank you again, my friend.

Hahaha….
That girl with tail is definitely bad bad =D
BTW.
Timmy said on his last email to me the other day that if some friends here would want to contact him, it is okay to give them his email address and you are one among the very few friends that he mentioned. So let me know if you’d like to have his email address.
Of course I do. He stayed up with me all night when I couldn’t sleep! He knows i’m In devils remission…lol
Okay, please wait for a moment and then please upvote me once you’ve seen it so I edit it.
Ok I’m here.
He said he enjoyed talking to you the most compare to others.
Both of you are kind and funny and nice to interact with, IMO.
Ok!
Great.
Have fun talking to him….yay 🙂
I am editing the comment now.
I will Murn. He was a lot of fun and a good teacher…lol
Indeed….and most importantly, he is a real person and not a bot..=DD
I have his words legacy: “Sleep like a rock”
Because sleep like a baby would still have some distractions…:))
Hah! I only sleep like a rock when I OD’d on sleeping pills…j/k 😂🤣😂
Hahaha…..
Just don’t make yourself addicted to it and you’ll be fine…=DD
Nah! I use melatonin it’s better for me. ☺️🙂
Now that I’m retired, I’m finding more opportunities to travel. In the past few years, I’ve been to New Orleans, Hawai’i, Nashville, England and Italy. Planning a trip to Japan sometime this year.
One thing I do on every trip: take a cooking class in the local cuisine.
That’s why you sounds to be a very happy person..:)
Those are great places, I hope to get there one day.
I went to Japan in 2017 to 4 cities. I like Kyoto best. I would recommend it. It’s been the country I visit that I would always want to go back.
Great list, Alex. I’ve been to New Orleans, Nashville, and England too. 🙂
I love them all.

Thank you so much, Fire.
A very Happy and Prosperous New Year to you too.
Briefly, my work kept me travelling all the time. Either up to London on the train from my home on the coast – or all around the UK – to the whole of Europe and then every continent (mostly at different stages in my career). I always carried a camera and my computer (and a writing pad for backup).
I would visit every place of interest either side of my appointments. And on the car journeys to and fro. I logged every one. So I ended up with three databases of things I had seen one for UK, one Europe and one for rest of world.
Now I can look up to see where I was three decades ago – which is fun. I can tie that into my saved photos and the recall this provides is astonishing.
It actually helped my work as sometimes it is best to walk away from it and then come back with a fresh mind. So nothing was lost from work or hobby.
Many a summer evening, I would be rushing around trying to see places before the light went altogether.
In the summer, I often started to think about finding dinner only after 10pm. Since I always loved Indian food, that was not a problem as they invariably opened into the small hours.
Then back to my room to write it all up – sometimes I would fall asleep at my laptop !!! LOL
Indian food? This is what’s going to ruin our relationship. I will expect you to cook and I despise Indian food 😀
Feed a cold and starve a lawyer… 😂😈😂
How do you think I’m in the ocean so much without fear? I know the sharks won’t eat me out of professional courtesy.
You’ll find it different in the Indian Ocean…
I don’t like anything spicy. I have very plain taste. I prefer to call it “classic.” 😀
You would not expect me to be bland.
Not at all……
The sharks? Why?
The sharks there make terrible lawyers…
They are too nice.
Isn’t there an island in the Indian Ocean that’s famous for shark attack’s? I don’t remember the name.
La Réunion – east of Madagascar.
I’m not shocked you knew that.
Not been there, though. I like swimming but like to keep all my limbs intact…
We paddleboard 2-3 times a week. I grew up in the ocean. I have a healthy respect, but am not scared. That being said – I’m smart enough to stay away from any area deemed “high shark attack.” My Yankee husband took some convincing, but having a native FL wife and 3 native FL kids means he’s overruled. We’re born salty, as my dad used to say.
And now that you tell me the name, I remember the documentary I watched. It looks beautiful, but kind of poor like a lot of islands. Sad.
Best education is the school of life and traveling I totally get what you are saying. Only thing we disagree on is the cuisine. Not fond of curry. Seems like all residents of UK love the stuff. Love Mexican food not sane as Spanish but very tasty
How wonderful the work you had there.
No wonder you’d always sound refreshed. Very adventurous.
London has been on my list to visit, it is just that they require different visa than Schengen. I had the chance to visit 5 countries of Eastern Europe in November, hope to include London on next trip to Northern Europe hopefully end of this year or next year.
I highly recommend London.
Thank you, Bro. Hopefully we will make it there by end of this year or maybe next year.
I love London. It is home to poor food options but brilliant entertainment, shopping, and historical sites. The nightlife is also quite good. It’s very expensive but well worth the visit.
I’ve missed this comment. Sorry Bro.
That’s true, I have heard about food house for the poor.
I also heard that a cup of coffee would cost you 10 pounds in London, but I do put London on my list to visit.
Actually I have some friends in London, in Swansea and in Birmingham. I will definitely visit them if I have the chance to go there.

Hi Murn, how are you? It’s been a while since I got a tag here. I’ll try and post another discussion soon.
It’s so good to see you, Roach.
I’ll get notification on email when you post so I’ll send the tags then. I published one topic yesterday but I meant to leave it till later this evening as I was busy last night.
I try to be here more on the weekend but on weekdays like now, my time is kind of tight.
I am getting ready to work now.
See you soon. 😉
Travelling to me means recharging, getting away from routine and regular life, to get inspiration from the places I travel to and to see new things. I am very much interested in history, how the people at other sides of this world live their life, in architecture, and how the beauty of the nature, the different cultures, different foods etc. Sometimes I see places on TV or on magazines, it would mean so much more when I can tell that I have visited those places.

Good morning, i’m sitting at work, will be here for the next eight hours babysitting the job🤪
Haha…babysitting.
But you can be here at the same time, sounds like a wonderful job you have there…=D
It’s fun, the outfit we’re doing the project for requires the superintendent to always be on site when any product is being installed…..I can blog here just as easily as from my easy chair at home.
A great job.
Supervising, get the job done and have fun on here.

Morning,
Thank you for letting me know.
Much appreciated.
Editing it right away.
Happy New Year…:)
Thanks Murn 🤗 and for you too. It is exciting to enter a new decade.
I agree and let’s make it a better year. 🙂
Only by the grace of God. May this year I think, before I speak/comment/act…haha it is an age old resolution… but this year/decade there may be hope for me.
That’s true. We have 366 blank pages of a 2020 book, it’s up to us what to write on each page, we can make it better than last year but it is all God to determine the result.

Happy New Year to you and yours too.
I don’t even know what that means.
Sometime you get tagged twice and that annoys you.
We don’t want our tagging to annoy you.
What does THAT mean? Try dropping the jargon and say what you want to say. It sounds like you’re trying to speak Urdu to an emu.
All is well…thank you very much!🌿🐦
Much appreciated.
Thank you…:))

funny thing i went home for the holidays [thanksgiving and christmas] and for the first time i noticed the sign on I-4 for the college in lakeland [southern something] with the frank lloyd wright builds has that on the highway sign.

The unmatched and futuristic designer.
Hey, the prices in that trip advisor are in IDR 😉
hum, interesting on the pricing. do you think the computer now knows where the viewer is and adjusts accordingly? i think they were in USD why i viewed. i’m going to google it again and see. i noticed today on the google auto fill there are now pictures/thumbnails to the left of the text. i was looking for chinese restuarants number and when i typed ‘chin’ – china autofilled with their flag for the thumbnail. these machines are getting dangerously smart. they have an algorythm for everything. i don’t know if you do apps, but stay off ‘ticktock’. the chinese own it:
https://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-military-bans-tiktok-over-ties-to-china-11578090613
I think they make it to know where the viewer is as I just clicked it again and it does show the prices in IDR with all the pictures to the left of the prices. How smart.
Yes, that’s what I find here too that as we type something, some pictures to match the words we type appear for us to use. Very helpful and smart.
IMHO, the best aspect of travel, especially international travel, is how it opens up one’s mind to understanding and appreciating the various cultures and way of life to be found in the world.
It’s all true and I do agree with that list you have.
Travel also enrich our knowledge.
Selamat Tahun Baru Bapak dan Ibu sekeluarga.
Selamat berhari minggu.
Suksama dear lady, and Eri and I wish the same for you.
Can you believe this weather and the flooding in Jakarta?
Dengue cases in our village are at record highs…and that’s only because of the much greater heat than normal.
Be safe!
Thank you, Roy.
Yes, The heat here in Bali and the flooding in Jakarta is the worse to happen to end 2019 and to begin 2020. I hope the government can handle it well.
A friend just checked out from hospital after 8 days Dengue fever.
You too, please be safe.

Nice,

I have some Neil Diamond’s songs on my playlist.
Here is one of them 🙂

I started “traveling” very young, with books and music. 🙂
https://youtu.be/QqJvqMeaDtU
That is an awesome video.
I watched it all and I really like it.
Are you still travelling now?
Retired and exploring the hundreds of miles of back roads in the Texas Hill Country on my Harley.
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/45c8deb5bf00177dd29f8931d01c60a11c470caa68097c1613a7d9b7938ece4e.jpg
That looks so cool.
You are an adventurous person.
I believe you must have been to may countries in the world?
Not really, never could afford it. National Geographic and the like filled in though.
You have everything in your country, you don’t need to travel to foreign countries much…:)
I’ll bet that’s so much fun. Do you camp out or stay in motels?
Usually just do day trips, travel slowly with frequent stops to actually look at interesting places. Do keep a sleeping bag in the saddlebags, just in case.
I had a boyfriend with a Harley and we and two other couples would go out on day trips through the back roads of Florida–we too stopped at interesting places along the way–the final destination being a bar with the best mushroom cheeseburgers in the world.
This is just a few miles West of my place. Rode by it many times and wasn’t until I stopped and really looked that I noticed the big rock that was split by a relatively small tree.

That’s fantastic!
I went to Las Vegas once and when we got sick of it, we decided to get out and see desert that surrounded it. At first I thought, “uck, I don’t see what Georgia O’Keeffe saw at all 🙂 … where the heck is all the color?!!…” And then all of a sudden, looking into the hills with the sun setting behind them, the subtle colors CAME OUT … and it was stunning. Yep, I agree with you–you really have to stop and really look!…
I envy you. Be careful.
Always careful since I learned that I’m not actually immortal! 😉
Neato ! Deep in the heart of Texas ! 👏
Do u ever road trip up to Sturgis ?
Here’s the funniest and best song Neil Diamond ever sang:

It’s so funny….=D
I don’t have it on my playlist yet.
I do so love to travel, but right now I can only afford a road trip here and there. I’m planning to grab my daughter and head to Key West next week. It should be a blast–and a boost to my creativity. (Makes me think of the possibilities.) I like the sights (sunsets, Old Florida) the sounds (yes to lots of music!) the food (all kinds) but most especially, I like to people watch.
To travel within the country sounds to be more fun on a road trip.
Key West sounds great. I hope you will have have fun with your daughter.
I think the trip itself has to be as much fun as the destination–I like to aim for the wildest things–like breakfast in the restaurant with the giant chicken on the roof 😉
Key West is so much fun. Conch everything too!
I hear there’s some happenin’ events too ! 🐬🐙🦀🐚🐡🐠
Lots of hippies down there. I bet it’s a lot of fun to visit, as I had the good fortune of doing many years ago.
I love traveling. I even love the sounds and smell of different places I have been. Sometimes I wish I was a drifter. That was my calling. But when you have a child you stay put. So much for my calling. Maybe later in life.
That’s true about the sounds and the smell of different places.
I like those parts too as I do know each place has their own sounds and smell, the different foods, different culture and life, makes us feel the satisfaction inside us.
I forgot about the taste. Most of the traveling I did when I was younger. I lived in Colorado for six months. I remember the songs that I heard while there. When I hear the songs I remember Colorado. I even remember the snow. Sometimes I still dream of snow.
Colorado sounds great. I have not been there but I have good friends live in Denver, and they love the city they live in very much and would never think of moving to other place.
I was in a place called Aurora Colorado. We lived in a house where you could see the mountains. It was so beautiful. I love the mountains and hills.
Where I live there is no snow no hills and no mountains. And it’s green year-round. We have only a few trees that change color.
I only know of Aurora for a reason I’d rather not bring up. Still, I have very fond memories of Vail, Breckenridge, Steamboat, etcetera. I love the Rockies. Such a natural wonder. You are fortunate to live there.
The mountains are so very beautiful there. I remember going into a stream and I found fools gold. I have both good and sad memories there. My dad broke his back and went to a hospital there who deals with spinal cord injuries. The hospital was called Craig. The people were really nice there.
I hope your father is alright.
He died years later. He had too many complications. But he had a good life even though he could not walk. He was always happy. He had a good life 🙂
May he rest in peace.
Thank you. I believe he is 🙂
My deepest condolences, Lady.
May he rest in peace.
Thank you.
Aspen ?
Hi, Lily! I was there too! 🙂
Which is foofier, Aspen or Vail.
IMO, Aspen. However, it’s a very close call.
I prefer far less glitz and glamour such as Jackson Hole, WY.
What about Mt Chestnut ?
I don’t think I’ve ever been. I have been to Galena, though.
I used to love to go skiing in Colorado but it’s not in my budget right now.
I never went skiing. I bet it’s fun.
It’s incredible. I cannot describe the rush and the joy.
Maybe one day I’ll get to try it.
It’s well worth trying. Take a beginner’s lesson. It’s awkward and very difficult at first. However, if you graduate from the bunny hill and green runs it’s all gravy from there. I like double black diamond runs, but those are for experienced skiers only.
One day hopefully soon. Bunny hill sounds good for me.
🎿🏔️ wish I had the coordination.
It’s akin to riding a bicycle. Once you learn, you never forget.
No I can’t, I tried and cried. I can’t even water ski. I pull back on the rope .
For some reason, I understand. I just couldn’t waterski. IDK why.
I tried and was awful. Snow skiing came much easier to me.
I’d have to say that how salutary travel is depends on the individual person. In my case, I went to fifteen different schools in twelve years and lived all over the country, and then joined the USN to see the world. While I did have experiences the less peripatetic didn’t, I can’t see where it ever made me happy or improved my health. If, in fact, the times I got food poisoned are factored in, it was probably bad for my health.
Though not mentioned here, I would also take issue with the claim that traveling somehow makes us smarter. Overall, there is probably no more traveled, cosmopolitan group on earth than senior enlisted people in the USN. If the claim that traveling makes us smarter were true, this would be one of the smartest groups on earth. It’s the same with long haul truckers.
Having bought a ranch at age forty, I haven’t traveled much since, and I’m happier now by far than I was in my traveling days. My point is that we shouldn’t think there is something wrong with us if we’re happier staying close to home. For those who do like to travel, the more power to you.
I was just reading an interesting article on beliefs replacing material goods as the markers of the social elite that Anne_Marrow posted. The industrial revolution makes distinguishing yourself materially difficult from the masses if you are part of the top 5 percent. Thus the emergence of certain beliefs, highly damaging to the middle and lower classes to replace material goods.
I would extend the concept to extensive travel. Worldwide travel is still expensive enough to make it reasonably uncommon. People of all classes take road trips in the US, but around the world sorts of junkets are extremely expensive and always unnecessary. But the upper classes also tend to believe they shouldn’t be wealthy (a very luxurious belief). Thus travel makes you “smarter”, or any of the ideas listed here, when mostly it’s a difficult and expensive hobby that marks the upper classes.
To be clear, I agree with you that there’s nothing wrong with extensive travel for those who like to do it. Anyone with the means and the want should thoroughly enjoy it. But as way to make people smarter, etc, no.
Make travel to foreign countries for once a year would sound affordable, and travel with group of people would help to reduce the cost too. 🙂
I would LOVE to travel to foreign countries. I’ve traveled to France to paint years ago and it was the most fantastic experience–I loved every minute of it, but probably because it didn’t come easily, I had to save the money for it for a long time.
France is great, it’s on my list to go to. Me too. I had to save money to travel too, it’s why I only make it once a year.
Are you an artist, a painter?
It was a 10-day tour starting with 2-days in Paris and then down into Provence–where we painted outdoors. Attempting (<--) to paint what I was seeing made me really look closely at the scenery. Oh my gosh, it's exactly like what the Impressionists saw--layers and layers of spectacular color. I wept, it was so beautiful. And it was doable then. $2,000. I doubt I could afford it now--it's gotten impossibly expensive to travel, I think. I have to battle shyness and so I end up talking to more of the "background people"--the less aggressive personalities like the gardeners, cooks, farmers, bar tenders--but I sure do get a whole lot out of that. (I don't speak much French, either. Didn't seem to stop me.)
That’s actually what I do too when visiting places for the first time; go with a group of friends on tour. Then as we find the best places we like, we would go on our own. Yes, it is really about that double cost now for Europe trip. For a short visit, I don’t see the need of speaking the language of places we go to. Although French is the most language I do want to learn to.
In my limited experience, I’ve found you can communicate without knowing the language. Lots of facial expressions and hand gestures–and a whole lot of laughter–and the message gets across. I talked to a farmer on the side of the road and I didn’t speak French & he didn’t speak English. For example, he told me he had horses … !!! And the other most important thing of all, is I try to treat everyone with respect. Honestly, people have done the most amazing things for me just because I was a foreigner who was nice to them. Homemade pastry in my room, flowers …
It’s not something that’s affordable to us with 3 children. Usually even domestic travel blows the budget. It’s okay. It’s not something our ancestors did very much unless they were moving or it’s a war.
Yes, with 3 children would be five times the costs.
Also your country is so big, travelling from one state to another states would be equally travel to foreign countries.
As a strictly sociological matter, as with expensive European cars, huge houses or similar class markers, if somebody of less exalted status really wants these things, they can oftentimes swing it by working insanely hard or borrowing–at least before they land in bankruptcy. Travel would be in this category, even staying in fancy hotels.
Remember Warhol’s famous paintings of soup cans? What they are intended to illustrate are the seamless merging of mass consumption and art through the technology that allows for the endless production of copies of both. And this is true. I’ve got a reproduction of a masterpiece above me as I type this; it would take somebody far more knowledgeable than me to tell the difference between this and the original. This is why art means less to most elites than it used to.
So, you are right that ideas are what separate the rich now from the rest of us–ideas the rest of us can’t afford to have. This is where I have to stop to avoid running afoul of this site’s ban on political discussion.
You are the most traveller as far as I know from those I have interacted with.
Fifteen different schools in twelve years, means you change school more than once in certain year during those twelve years.
I think I agree that the more we travel the more knowledge we get, not sure if that is why it’s said to make you smarter.
Murn, a paradox: The virgin OB/GYN knows far more about sex than even old married couples, right? The catch is that the virgin OB/GYN lacks the experience of sex.
Similarly, to try to convert me from my heathen ways years ago, my mother gave me a trip to Medjugorje and Rome when she became too ill to go. Because I was in school, I knew far more about Rome than the ladies with me who had all taken this trip numerous times. What those church ladies had that I didn’t was the experience of being in these places.
So, if we can agree on this difference, I’ll add that I enjoyed many of those experiences even if they never made me any smarter. As for being happy, a particular environment can make us happier, or less happy. As Joseph Campbell used to say, follow your bliss–at least in this matter.

Less experience for the beginner make them more curious and wanting it more….=D
The excitement from experiencing what you had those days, seemed to be more satisfying. 🙂
I’ve moved so many times it isn’t funny. I hate it now. Never belonging, never fitting it. No roots. But I do love to travel l still…
